Logging in and out

I see a verification code to verify my identity toggle
We have added enhanced security to prevent unauthorized logins from the Chrome version of LINE.

If you see a verification code when you log in to the chorme version of LINE, you will need it to verify your identity on the smartphone version of LINE.

Please follow the steps below on your smartphone.

1. Star the Chrome version of LINE.
2. Enter your email address and password and click Login.
3. A verification code will appear.
4. Start the smartphone version of LINE and enter the verification code that appears on the Chrome version of LINE.

Suddenly logged out of LINE Chrome toggle
You may be logged out automatically from LINE Chrome under the following circumstances:

1. When you log in to LINE Chrome from another device.
2. When you have changed the email address or password on the smartphone version LINE.
3. When you log out of your account on the smartphone version LINE.
4. When you have deleted your account on the smartphone version of LINE.
5. When a network error or a system failure has occurred.
6. When the app remains unused for a given amount of time.

Logging in with an email address

Logging in with an email address toggle
In order to log in using an email address, you need to register one beforehand. 

For details on how to register an email address, please refer to the following Help article:


To log in with an email address, please follow the steps below:

1. Download the Chrome version of LINE on your PC.

2. Start the Chrome version of LINE.
3. Click Login.
4. Enter your registered email address and password and click Login.

How to register an email address toggle
If you signed up for LINE from your smartphone and wish to use the Chrome version of LINE, you will need to register an email address beforehand.

If you signed up for LINE using the Chrome version, we recommend registering an email address as a more reliable method of logging in. 

For users who signed up for LINE using a smartphone
Please refer to the following Help article that is relevant to your device to register an email address:


Users who signed up for LINE on the Chrome version
If you did not register your email address when signing up for LINE, please do so by referring to the following steps:

1. Click the arrow icon at the top left of the screen > Settings.
2. From the Basic tab, click Email Registration.
3. Enter the email address you wish to register, and then click Next.
4. Enter the verification code that was sent to the email address you registered in step 3 and click Next.

I forgot my registered email address toggle
If you are using the Chrome version of LINE, you can check your registered email address by referring to the following:

1. Click the arrow icon at the top left of the screen > Settings.
2. In the Basic tab, check the email address that appears next to the Email Address field.

If you registered an email address with the smartphone version of LINE, you can check or change your email address from the app.

I forgot my password toggle
If you have forgotten your password, please reset it by referring to the steps below:

1. Click Rest Password at the bottom of the login screen.
2. Enter your registered email address and click OK.

Users who registered their email address on the smartphone version of LINE will also be able reset their password from the app.

I'm not receiving the password reset email toggle
Please check the following if you are not receiving the password reset email:

- Is your registered email address entered correctly?
- Did you enter an email address different from your registered one?
- Are you trying to send the password reset email repeatedly within a short period of time?

Note: You may not be able to receive the password reset email properly if you repeatedly sent a request for it. Please wait over 24 hours before sending a request again.

- Has the email been delivered to your spam, junk, or other folders?
- Do you have spam filters in place that block emails with URLs or that were sent from a PC? If so, please disable them.
- Do you have settings in place to only receive emails from certain domains? If so, please add “line.me” to your list of accepted domains.

- Does the email address you are using comply to RFC standards? 

The following are examples of email addresses that do not comply to RFC standards:

- Addresses with a dot (.) right before the @ symbol: abcd.@xxx.com
- Addresses with consecutive dots (.): ab..cd@xxx.com
- Addresses that begin with a hyphen (-): -abcd@xxx.com

How can I log into my account if my email address is not available? toggle
If you are unable to use your email address and password, you will not be able to log in using an email address. However, if you are using the the smartphone version of LINE, you can log in to your account using either of the following methods:

Logging in with a QR code

How do I log in with a QR code? toggle
By reading a QR code, you can log in to the Chrome version of LINE without registering an email address.

1. Start the Chrome version of LINE.
2. Select QR Code Login.
3. Start the smartphone version of LINE.
4. Go to More > Add Friends > QR Code
5. Read the QR code that appears on the Chrome version of LINE.
6. Tap Login.
The message "Login Successful!" will appear.

It says that my QR Code is invalid. What shall I do? toggle
If your QR code is no longer valid, click the arrow icon to generate a new one to log in.

I can't log in with a QR code toggle
Please try the following if you are unable to log in to the Chrome version of LINE with a QR code.

Update the smartphone version of LINE via the URL below.

How to scan a QR code toggle
Please check the following for the steps on each device.

For Android, iOS, and Windows Phone
To scan a QR code, from the Menu tab > tap Add Friends > QR Code.

For BlackBerry, Nokia, and FireFox
The QR Code scan feature is not available for these versions of LINE. 
Please login using your email address.

Cannot read QR codes toggle
Move your device closer to the QR code. Make sure the entire QR code fills the screen.

Nothing happens after I scan the QR code and click Log in toggle
Please try loging in once again with the QR code after force quitting the LINE app on your smartphone and restarting your device. If you are still unable to log in, please try switching off Wi-Fi and log in using a 3G or 4G connection.

Logging in with a phone number

Logging in with a phone number toggle
To log in with a phone number, please follow the steps below:

1. Start the Chrome version of LINE and click Phone Number Login.
2. Select your country, enter your phone number and password, and click Login.

Note: You can only log in with a phone number if you signed up for LINE on a PC. If you signed up using a smartphone, please register an email address and use it to log in or use a QR code.

Can I log in with my phone number if I forgot my password? toggle
If you forget your password after signing up from the PC version of LINE, you can log in to your account using your registered email address. However, if you did not register an email address, you will not be able to log in using either methods. In this case, please create a new account by signing up once again.

Login errors

I get an error when I enter my email address or password toggle
If you encounter an error entering your email address or password when you log in to the Chrome version of LINE, it is possible you may have accidentally entered the wrong information.

Please follow the steps below to make sure there are no mistakes with your login information and try logging in once again.

1. Enter your password in a notepad app and ensure the following.
- Make sure there are no extra spaces.
- Enter your password in half-width characters.
- As the letters are case sensitive, make sure you entered them correctly.

2. Copy the password you entered in the notepad app.
3. Start the Chrome version of LINE and paste you password in the password entry field.

If you are unable to resolve the issue with the method above, it is possible the login information you entered and the information registered with LINE may be different.

If you registered your email address on the smartphone version of LINE, please refer to the following Help article relevant to your device:


Note: If you signed up for LINE on the PC version, there will be no way to check or change your email address before logging in.

If you are still unable to log in with the correct email address, it is possible you may have accidentally entered the wrong password. In this case, please refer to the following Help article:

I got an error regarding the Allow Login setting toggle
If you encounter an error related to the Allow Login setting when logging in to the Chrome version of LINE, please turn this setting ON from your smartphone.

1. Go to More > tap Settings > Account.
2. Turn the Allow Login setting ON.

I see an error that says I am unable to log in due to network issues toggle
If you see an error that says "Unable to login due to network issues." when logging in to the Chrome version of LINE, it is possible you do not have a stable network connection.

If you see an error that says "We are currently unable to log you in." when logging in to the Chrome version of LINE, it is possible you do not have a stable network connection.

Logging in and performance issues toggle
If you are experiencing logging in or performance issues, first check which version of LINE you can use on your PC from here, then try the following. 

Windows, Windows 8, and Mac version of LINE
- Uninstall the PC version of LINE and then reinstall it
- Restart your PC
-Disable any security software or firewalls you have in place temporarily, or allow the LINE application to be used.
-Disable any resident software or customization software such as WindowsBlinds, etc.

Windows 10 version of LINE
- Update the PC version of LINE
- Restart your PC
-Disable any security software or firewalls you have in place temporarily, or allow the LINE application to be used.
-Disable any resident software or customization software such as WindowsBlinds, etc.

Chrome version of LINE
- Uninstall the Chrome version of LINE and then reinstall it
- Update the Chrome browser. If you are using Chrome OS, please also try updating the OS.
- Disable background transmitting apps and extensions
- Clear data such as the cache and browser history
