Frequently asked questions about the Midorikuji promotion toggle
For this promotion that we are calling LINE Green Week, some users will be gifted a Midorikuji.

For more information, please see this official blog post (only available in Japanese).


This promotion will be held between 8 am on May 1, to 11:59 pm on May 7, 2017. During that time, Midorikuji will be sent to some LINE users.

Prizes will be issued to your LINE Pay account after May 8, 2017.


Those who have used LINE between March 1 and April 1, 2017 will be eligible to receive Midorikuji.

Please understand that you cannot request to have a Midorikuji sent to you if you were not eligible to receive one.


Please try to access the page once again after trying the following:

• Clear your cache
• Restart the app and your device
Note: The steps for the above will vary depending on your device.

If you're not sure how to do any of the above, please check the manufacturer’s website for your device, or contact them directly.


Yes, both of these are official accounts managed by LINE.


The LINE Green Week and LINE Pay Team official accounts send out important messages. That is why they cannot be blocked or deleted.


If you can’t send Midorikuji, it may be that:

• You are trying to send one to a friend you've previously sent before. You can only send one Midorikuji per person.
• You are trying to send one to a friend who is using a LINE account that was not registered with a Japanese phone number.
• You are trying to send one to a friend who is using a device other than iOS or Android.


You need to have a LINE Pay account in order to receive prizes for Midorikuji.

If you tap the button on the page that asks you to agree to the notes and terms of conditions when playing a Midorikuji, a LINE Pay account will be created.

You can use your LINE Pay balance to buy items on LINE STORE.

If you sign up for a LINE Pay card, you’ll be able to make purchases online, or at merchants all over Japan where JCB cards are accepted.

When you play a Midorikuji, you'll be asked to agree to have a LINE Pay account set up for you.

If you don’t need the account, you can delete it from the Settings menu in LINE Pay.
Important: If you have an existing balance, please use it before deleting your account or agree to forfeit it.


The amount for the prize drawn by the person who received the Midorikuji will be split 50/50 between the person who drew the kuji and the person who originally sent it to them. (E.g. If a person draws a JPY 100 prize, the person who drew the kuji and the person who sent it will each receive JPY 50.)


Prizes will be totaled and then distributed to winners’ LINE Pay accounts after May 8, 2017.


If you’re not receiving a Midorikuji, it may be that:

• You've blocked the friend who is sending you a Mirdorikuji.
• You have the Filter messages (which rejects messages from people who are not your friend) setting ON, and the person sending you a Midorikuji is not your friend on LINE.

Note: Even in these cases, you will not be able to have the Midorikuji resent to you or check it after the fact.

How LINE Points are automatically exchanged for Coins toggle
If you are short Coins when trying to buy stickers or themes, but have enough Points to make the purchase, they will be automatically exchanged for Coins.

The following versions of LINE will convert the Points you have saved up automatically.

• iOS
LINE version 6.8.5 and later

• Android
LINE version 6.8.2 and later

You can check your Coin balance from your smartphone here.

The amount that appears under My Coins will include your LINE Points converted to Coins.

The exchange rate may differ depending on the country you are using LINE in. You can view the various rates here.

Your balance will appear under My Coins as in the following examples (For countries where 1 Coin = 2 Points):
• If you have 60 Coins and 80 Points, your balance will be 100
• If you have 10 Coins and 100 Points, your balance will be 60
• If you have 0 Coins and 100 Points, your balance will be 50
• If you have 0 Coins and 90 Points, your balance will be 45

Data that can be transferred toggle
Please see the following for a list of what can and cannot be transferred.

Data that can be transferred:
- Your friends list (including groups)
- Notes and albums
- Profile settings (profile photo, display name, Status Message, ID)
- Timeline and Home posts
- Data saved in Keep (including images, videos, text, files)
- The right to use your LINE stickers and themes (including those received as gifts)
- Your purchase history and Coin and LINE Point balance

Note
- Coins cannot be carried over between different OSes (e.g. from iOS to Android and vice versa).
- Registration information for linked apps, such as LINE Game titles and LINE PLAY.

Data that cannot be transferred: 
- Your chat history

Transferring a LINE account toggle
To continue using your existing LINE account after changing to a new device, you need to have either registered an email address or linked it with a Facebook account on your previous device.

Purchasing LINE Coins toggle
To purchase LINE Coins, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to More > Settings > Coins.
2. Tap Charge.
3. Tap the pack of Coins you wish to purchase.

Backing up and restoring chats (iOS) toggle
From LINE version 6.4, you can save your chat history by backing them up on iCloud. Please note that in order to use this feature, your device must be running iOS version 8.1 or later.

After updating to the latest version of LINE, sign in to your iCloud account and do the following. Please note you will not be able to restore chats from a backup of the entire app.

To manually backup on iCloud
1. Go to More > Settings > Chats & Voice Calls.
2. Tap Chat History Backup > Back Up Now.


You can restore your chat history to a new phone from an iCloud backup. Sign in to your iCloud account on your new device and do the following.

Restore from iCloud
1. Start LINE on the new device.
2. Tap Log in and carry over your account.
3. If the screen to restore your chat history appears, tap Restore Chat History from Backup.

You can also save your chat history as a text file.

Please note
- You cannot save stickers, photos, videos, or voice messages.
- The history of each chat room will be saved; however they cannot be restored on LINE.
- You can view the saved file on apps that can read text files.

To save as a text file
1. Tap Chats and select the chat room you wish to save.
2. Tap the V icon on the top right > Settings.
3. Tap Export Chat History and choose an option to send the file.

Before changing devices toggle

 

In order to transfer your LINE account, you will need to have the following set up BEFORE changing devices. We recommend writing down your registered email address and password from steps 1 and 2 before moving on to step 3 and 4.

 

Check out this video for the entire account transfer process.

 

1. Have an email address registered to your LINE account.

To check your registered email address, please see this article.

 

2. Set a password when you registered your email address.

You will not be able to view your password on your device.

If you have forgotten your password, please see this article.

If your registered email address is no longer available and you have forgotten your password, please see this article.

 

3. Turn ON the Allow Account Transfer setting.

This step is not required if your registered phone number will not change.

4. Back up your chat history.

Before changing devices, it should be noted that you cannot transfer your chat history or Coin balance between different OSes (e.g. Android to iOS and vice versa).

 

After changing devices, please install the LINE app on your new device and select Log in to transfer your account.

I'm not receiving the verification SMS toggle
If you are not receiving the verification code through SMS, please try resending it or verify using the automated call verification option. You can also verify using your Facebook account.

You can check your Coin balance by following the steps below: 

1. Go to More > Settings.
2. Tap Coins.

Tap here to open the Settings menu from your smartphone.

Can I use the same account on multiple devices? toggle

The same LINE account cannot be used on multiple smartphones. Each phone number and email address can only be used on one device. If you verify LINE on another device using the same phone number, the account on your previous device will be deleted automatically and you will no longer be able to access it.

 

You can use the same account you use on your smartphone on your PC or iPad by logging in with your email address on the respective versions for PC and iPad.

How do I register using a phone number? toggle
Please follow the steps below. While you cannot verify with SMS or voice call on iPad, you can verify your account using the phone number for a smartphone that is not registered to LINE.

1. Start LINE and tap New user.
2. Select the country and enter your phone number and tap NEXT.
3. Please read our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and tap NEXT.
4. Tap OK to send yourself a verification SMS.
5. Enter the verification code you received via SMS and tap NEXT.
On some devices, the verification code you receive will be entered automatically. On some devices, only the automated call verification feature is available.
6. Select whether or not to use your contacts list to enable your friends who are already using LINE to be automatically added to your Friends list. 
7. Enter your display name and a profile photo, and tap Register.
8. Select whether or not to register your email address. To carry over your account, you are required to register your email address.
