How to Use

What kind of service is LINE Out? toggle
LINE Out is a service that allows users to make calls from LINE to landlines, mobile phones, and smartphones at low rates. In addition to domestic calls, international calls are also available.

Calls made between LINE users using the LINE app will remain free.

What if I receive another call when using LINE Out? toggle
If you receive a call on your smartphone in the middle of a call made using LINE Out, the smartphone call will take priority, and the ongoing call will be disconnected.

No, LINE Out does not support emergency numbers in any country.

Emergency numbers and numbers of paid services cannot be dialed using LINE Out.

What will be displayed on the recipient’s device when I call them using LINE Out? toggle
The number registered to your LINE account will be displayed when you are calling using LINE Out. On some devices, you may be displayed as the name your number is stored under, while others may show an international number or an unknown number.

Some countries and carriers do not support this feature. In this case, your number will be displayed as Unknown Caller or No Caller ID.

You cannot edit your caller number.

What networks are supported by LINE Out? toggle
LINE Out can be used on 3G, 4G LTE, and Wi-Fi networks. Call quality may be affected if the signal is weak or the network is unstable. Please use LINE Out in a place with a good signal to fully take advantage of its crystal-clear quality.

Are there any regions where LINE Out cannot be used? toggle
As of July 2016, LINE Out is available to users registered to LINE in the following countries.

America
Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, United States, and Venezuela

Asia
Cambodia, India, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand

Europe
Germany, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, and United Kingdom

Oceania
Australia and New Zealand

Some countries restrict the use of internet-based call services like LINE Out. You are responsible for complying with the governing laws and regulations in your country or region, and should not use LINE Out if doing so is in violation of those laws and regulations.

Can LINE Out be used overseas? toggle
Yes, LINE Out can be used anywhere overseas. However, you will need to confirm that you have first made the necessary preparations, given below.

⋅You are in a place where you can connect to a 3G, LTE, or Wi-Fi connection.
⋅You have registered your phone number with your LINE account.

In addition, LINE Out can only be used to make outgoing calls, so users with only Wi-Fi connections will not be able to receive incoming calls.

How come my LINE friends’ phone numbers are displayed on their profiles? toggle
Phone numbers of LINE friends who are in your smartphone’s contact list are displayed on their profiles. Tap the phone number to make a call using LINE Out.

Why are photos of non-LINE contacts displayed in my call history or contacts? toggle
Photos displayed on LINE Out’s recent calls and contacts lists are the photos set in your smartphone’s contacts. These photos will not be sent to LINE’s servers.

Why do my friend and I receive LINE messages when I call them using LINE Out? toggle
If you are mutual LINE friends and have each other’s phone numbers saved on your smartphones, a chat message will be sent to the both of you when there is a missed call or after you end a call with each other. This way, you can call each other back easily after missed calls.

Can I suspend or terminate my LINE Out account? toggle
LINE Out is a service integrated with your LINE account, and it is not possible to terminate only your LINE Out account.

You may terminate your LINE Out account by deleting your LINE account. Please note that by doing so, all of your LINE STORE data, including purchase history, purchased items, charge history, credit balance etc., will be deleted completely and cannot be restored.

What is the list that appears when I am dialing using the keypad? toggle
The list of suggestions is to help you make calls more efficiently.

By dialing the first digit, phone numbers in your recent calls with that digit will be displayed. If you continue entering the second to fourth digit, suggestions from your smartphone’s contacts will also be displayed.

Select a contact from the list of suggestions to save the effort of entering the entire phone number.

Performance of Bluetooth devices depends on their compatibility with your device itself. LINE cannot guarantee if they will work with LINE Out.

No, LINE Out can only make outgoing calls, and does not have call forwarding capabilities.

What happens when I add new contacts to LINE Out? toggle
New contacts added to LINE Out will also be added to your device's contacts list.
LINE Out contacts are synced with your device's contacts list.

Please note that on iOS devices, you cannot add new contacts via LINE Out.

Stickers and themes cannot be purchased while you are making a call. Please make purchases only after the call ends.

How do I cancel Auto-Recharge and Auto-Renewal plans? toggle

Please complete the following steps to cancel an Auto-Recharge or Auto-Renewal plan.

 

1. Log in to the LINE Web Store
 https://store.line.me/
2. Go to My Page > Payment Plan to see your active plans.
3. Cancel the plan.

 

If you do not see the words "Auto-recharge enabled" or "Renewal Date" after completing step 2, then you are not currently using an automatic payment plan.

How do I make calls using LINE Out? toggle
You can start LINE Out from the Call tab.

1. Tap the Call tab.
2. Tap the keypad icon at the top of the screen.
3. Enter the phone number on the keypad and tap the phone button at the bottom of the screen.

How can I check call rates? toggle
You can check call rates using one of the following steps.

Visit the following website on your browser to check the complete price list.

LINE app
1. Tap the Call tab.
2. Tap the keypad icon at the top of the screen
3. Tap the settings icon at the bottom right of the screen
4. Tap Price Table

Enter the phone number using the keypad, and the rate per minute for that number will be displayed.

You can check your purchase and usage history from the LINE app.

1. Tap the Call tab.
2. Tap the keypad at the top of the screen.
3. Tap the settings icon at the bottom right of the screen.

Can I delete my call history? toggle
Yes, you can delete your call history by following the steps below. However, please note that you cannot delete your usage history.

1. Tap the Call tab.
2. Swipe (slide horizontally) the phone number you wish to delete.
3. Tap Delete.

How do I make international calls? toggle
To make international calls, you need to enter the recipient’s country code and phone number.

Simply tap the country code at the keypad screen to change it, or enter a new country code using the keypad. Press and hold 0 to enter the + symbol.

For example, if you are calling a number in the USA (country code: +1), you will have to enter +1-xxx-xxxx-xxx.

Can I change the default country code? toggle
Yes, you can change the default country code from the settings menu.

1. Tap the Call tab.
2. Tap the keypad icon at the top of the screen.
3. Tap the settings icon at the bottom right of the screen.
4. Tap Default Country Code

The rates per minute and your Call Credit balance on the keypad will be converted into the selected currency.

Can I change the currency of the rates displayed on the keypad? toggle
Yes, you can change this in the LINE Out settings.

1. Tap the Call tab.
2. Tap the keypad icon at the top of the screen.
3. Tap the settings icon at the bottom right of the screen.
4. Tap Currency Display Settings.

The rates per minute and your Call Credit balance on the keypad will be converted into the selected currency.

Can I call numbers with an automated answering system? toggle
Yes, you can. To bring up the keypad in the middle of a call, tap the Keypad button. You can then use the keypad to navigate through an automated answering system as per a normal phone call.

The call will be disconnected if your balance runs out in the middle of it. You will be alerted one minute in advance.

Can I use LINE Out using a data-only SIM card? toggle
To use LINE Out, you need to verify your phone number. If you are able to receive text messages and verify your number, then you can use LINE Out. However, please note that LINE Out can only be used to make outgoing calls, and cannot receive incoming ones.

No, you can only use the phone number of the smartphone that you are using LINE Out on.

What is Call Credit? toggle
Call Credit is pre-paid credit that you can charge to your account. Call Credit can be used to make calls to landlines and mobile phones in all countries and regions supported by LINE Out, and the amount of credit will be deducted from your balance each time.

Call Credit can be purchased from the LINE app or the LINE STORE. All Call Credit packs are available on the LINE STORE, while only a limited selection is available from the app.

How do I purchase a 30-day plan? toggle
30-day plans are available from the LINE STORE. To purchase one, please follow these steps.

1. Go to the LINE STORE on the browser of your PC or smartphone.
2. Click or tap Log In.
3. Enter the email address and password registered to your LINE account to log in.
4. Click or tap LINE Out on the menu.
5. Go to 30-Day plan.
6. Select a country, then a plan type.
7. Select the payment method and click OK.

How much does LINE Out cost? toggle
With LINE Out, you are only charged for what you use. No monthly subscription fee is required.

As with any other apps, you will be charged a data usage fee by your mobile network operator.

Depending on your current plan, you may need to pay your mobile phone company each time you use LINE. We recommend signing up for an unlimited data plan so you can enjoy 3G, 4G LTE, and Wi-Fi data usage without additional fees. Please contact your network carrier for more information.

I can't use LINE Out, even though I purchased credit on LINE STORE toggle
LINE Credit and Call Credit are different types of virtual currency. After charging LINE Credit, you need to purchase Call Credit or a 30-Day Plan.
Please note that LINE Credit is a virtual currency that can only be used to make purchases on LINE STORE. Call Credit is a virtual currency to be used to make calls on LINE Out.

Please refer to the following for steps on how to purchase Call Credit or a 30-Day Plan using LINE Credit.

1. Go to the LINE STORE page via the URL below.

2. Tap 30-Day Plan or the Call Credit amount you wish to purchase from the list of paid plans.
3. Tap the Purchase button and log in to LINE STORE.

You cannot purchase the same 30-day plan again until after the period your existing plan ends. To continue making calls, please purchase Call Credit instead. If you are an Android user, you can also use LINE Coins to make calls.
