What kind of service is LINE Pay? toggle
LINE Pay is a payment service that allows you to make purchases from LINE Pay merchants, as well as send money and split bills with your LINE friends.

You can also use your credit card to make payments after a simple setup. If you sign up for LINE Cash (a type of LINE Pay account), you can make payments with your balance, as well as use the Request Money and Split Bill with other users.

By verifying your identity, you can convert your LINE Cash account to a LINE Money account and gain access to features to send and withdraw money.
Note: To sign up for LINE Pay, you need to have a LINE account that is registered with a Japanese phone number.

Why is LINE Pay displayed on my More tab when I never signed up for it? toggle
The appearance of the LINE Pay icon on the More tab does not mean that you are registered to the service.

To use LINE Pay, you need to go to the More tab and tap LINE Pay, then enter the required information to sign up for LINE Pay in addition to your LINE account information (e.g., email address and password).

If you see the sign up screen when you tap the LINE Pay icon, it means that you are not registered to the service.

What are the recommended system specifications? toggle
For system specifications, we recommend using smartphones running the following OSes:

iPhone: iOS 7.0 or later

Android: Android OS 4.0.3 or later


Please note that when resetting your passcode, you will need to receive a verification code via voice call. For this reason, you must have a phone number that is able to receive voice calls registered to your LINE account.

Do I have to pay any service charges when using LINE Pay? toggle
No, users can add money, send money, and pay using LINE Pay at no charge.

However, when withdrawing LINE Money, a service fee of JPY 216 will be charged per transaction.

Furthermore, merchants are charged a separate service charge. Please see the LINE Pay Merchant website for details.

Is LINE Pay safe? toggle
You can protect your LINE Pay account by setting a separate passcode from your LINE account in order to prevent unauthorized use by third parties. This ensures a higher level of security so you can be assured that your account is safe, even if your device is lost or stolen.
Note: If you have not set a LINE Pay passcode, please do so to ensure that you can use the service safely and securely.

By switching on the passcode lock, you can protect important information such as your balance and card information.

To set your passcode lock: 

1. From the LINE Pay menu, tap Settings > Passcode(PIN).
2. Turn Passcode(PIN) Lock ON.

LINE Pay uses high-level encryption features to protect personal and payment information from phishing attacks, and user information is matched with the registered information on LINE Pay for confirmation. When a payment is made, LINE Pay will start on your smartphone and the payment will be completed once you yourself complete the process on your device. Your LINE profile information will appear at the top of the screen, and you can confirm the payment will be made with LINE Pay.
Note: Your profile information will not appear on phishing sites.

If you lose your smartphone, simply contact us and we will deactivate your LINE Pay account. If you wish to reactivate your account, you can do so directly from your smartphone.

What is LINE Cash and LINE Money? toggle
There are two types of LINE Pay accounts - LINE Cash and LINE Money. You can make purchases from LINE Pay merchants without registering to LINE Pay. Please see this article for more details.

LINE Cash
This is the account you get when you first register to LINE Pay. In addition to registering your credit and debit cards, you can charge your LINE Pay account at locations such as convenience stores to use for purchases. You can also request money and request to split bills from your LINE friends. Please note that you can only make requests with a LINE Cash account, and you cannot actually send money.

LINE Money
By verifying your identity, you can convert your LINE Cash account to a LINE Money account and gain access to the following features:

1. Send money to LINE friends.
2. Withdraw your LINE Pay balance to a bank account.

Verifying your identity to use LINE Money toggle
To use LINE Money, you need to first verify your identity using one of the methods below. 
Note: If you have not set a passcode, you must set one after agreeing to the Terms of Use.

Link a bank account
1. On the LINE Pay menu, tap Add Money > Bank Account.
2. Select your bank from the list.
Note: You cannot verify your identity with Japan Post Bank. Please choose another bank instead.

After selecting your bank, please complete the respective registration process. If you have any questions about the steps on the bank website, please contact the bank directly for assistance.

Once your account is linked with your bank account, your identity will be verified in real time and you can start using LINE Money.
Note: The registration process will be completed in real time with any selected bank.

LINE Pay identity verification
1. On the LINE Pay menu, tap Settings > Identity Verification > Upload Photo ID.
2. Review the Terms of Use, scroll to the bottom, and tap Agree to Terms.
3. Enter your name, date of birth, address, and occupation then tap Next.
4. Attach a picture of one of the following forms of identification:
- Driver’s license
- Health insurance card
- Residence card
- Special permanent resident certificate
- Basic resident registration card (with a photo)
If your current address is not printed on the card, please write it in the relevant column on the back of the card and send us a picture of that as well. 
5. Receive the mailed documents from LINE Pay.

We will check to make sure the information you entered matches the information on your identification to confirm your identity. If you are unable to receive the documents we send by mail at your own address, your identity verification request will be canceled.

Please make sure that the picture of your identification is clear and shows the entire document in full.

If there is any personal information on the document unrelated to the identity verification request, such as your permanent address or organ donor status, please still submit a picture of the entire document but redact or block out those areas.

If we receive any pictures that contain your permanent address, we will immediately delete the picture and cancel the identity verification process.

If the information on your identification document is out of date due to marriage or change of name or address, please update it before applying.
