Making Payments
Available payment methods for LINE Pay
With LINE Pay, you can easily make payments with the money added to your LINE Pay balance, Add & Pay, or a registered credit/debit card (only available with some LINE service merchants). You can also make debit payments with a linked bank account.
Note: Due to enhanced security, you may be asked to upload documents for identity verification when linking a bank.
Accepted payment methods will vary by merchant. Be sure to check each merchant’s payment page to see which options are available.

Stores and services that accept LINE Pay
LINE Pay can be used for online, LINE app, and LINE Pay app payments.
You can use the LINE app to check which stores and services accept LINE pay. Go to Find a Store in the LINE Pay main menu, then use your current location or search for a keyword.
Payments are made with your LINE Pay balance or Add & Pay.
Note: You can also use a credit card registered to LINE Pay when making online payments for some LINE services.
You can pay with LINE Pay's Scan feature at PayPay merchants that let you pay by scanning a QR code.
Note: You may not be able to use the Scan feature at some PayPay merchants.
Also, by having a Visa LINE Pay prepaid card or credit card issued, you can make payments at Visa and iD merchants. For more information, see the following help articles.

Can I cancel an order?
About pre-approved payments
The pre-approved payment feature lets you make payments automatically, so you don't have to verify your LINE Pay passcode each time you use a vending machine or make regular payments at an online merchant.
Note: When using this feature at a participating merchant for the first time, you need to accept the terms of agreement.
You can set your payment method the first time you make a pre-approved payment at a merchant. Depending on which methods the merchant offers, you can choose to use:
• Your LINE Pay balance.
• Add & Pay.
• Debit payments.
At merchants that accept payments using Points, you can also choose to use your Points first. However, if you want to change your payment method or the Point usage setting, you need to unlink the pre-approved payment on the LINE Pay main menu and set your payment method again.
If you've read the information above and still can't change a merchant's payment settings, please configure your settings from the merchant's app or web page.

Can I check the delivery status of my purchase?
Making online purchases with LINE Pay
With some LINE services (e.g. LINE STORE), you can make payments even if you don't have a LINE Pay account.
To purchase products at online LINE Pay merchants, refer to the steps below.
If you have a LINE Pay account:
1. Select LINE Pay on the merchant's checkout page.
Note: If you receive a payment request in a LINE chat from the merchant, you can pay by accessing the link inside only if you're using LINE with a Japanese phone number. For details about making payments from LINE chats, see this Help article.
2. LINE Pay will open on your smartphone.
3. From the payment screen, select your payment method, then tap Pay [amount].
4. Tap OK and enter your LINE Pay passcode.
Note: Depending on the merchant, you may be taken to the payment completion page, where you will be required to take further steps to complete the order.
If you are not signed up for LINE Pay:
1. Select LINE Pay at checkout.
2. Register a phone number to your LINE account if you have not done so.
Note: You cannot make payments unless you have a phone number registered to your LINE account.
3. Enter your credit card details.
4. Select whether or not you want to sign up for LINE Pay.
Note: If you choose to sign up for LINE Pay, set a passcode.
5. Agree to the conditions.
6. Tap Pay [amount].
Note: Depending on the merchant, you may be taken to a payment completion page where you will be required to take further steps to complete the order.
When the payment has been completed, you'll receive a message on LINE from LINE Pay with the transaction details.

I can't make payments using LINE Pay on my smartphone
If a payment failed when using LINE Pay on your smartphone, please try the following:
• Update LINE to the latest version.
• If the payment screen does not display properly or closes midway with some apps or mobile browsers, the payment will not be properly completed. In such cases, please select Continue on the payment pending screen that appears directly after making the payment. If the Continue button does not respond, please log in to LINE from the link at the bottom of the screen. After logging in to LINE and tapping the notification message that appears, the LINE Pay payment screen will appear. If the link to the login screen does not work, please use your device's browser (e.g. Safari), or another browser (e.g. Chrome).
• All payments need to be completed within 20 minutes. If more than 20 minutes have passed since you started making a payment, you will need to start over from the beginning.

Can I make purchases without registering to LINE Pay?
If you are a LINE user, you can use LINE Pay to make online purchases without additional registration.
For details on how to make purchases using LINE Pay, please see this article.
When a payment is completed, you will be sent a message on LINE from the LINE Pay official account with the transaction details.
For inquiries about delivery status or order cancellation, please contact the merchant you made the purchase from directly.
Note: If you are not registered to LINE Pay and wish to make a purchase, you must agree to the following:

I can't make purchases with my credit card registered to LINE Pay
If you're not able to make purchases with your credit card, it may be due to one of the following reasons.
• Your card information is invalid.
• There was a temporary error.
• The fraud prevention system was activated.
Please make sure that your card can be used for online purchases and that the card information was entered correctly.
If you're still experiencing issues after checking the above, please contact us via the relevant Inquiry Form based on the country code of your registered phone number.

About the Scan feature
You can use the Scan feature to make payments by scanning a code on the website of a merchant that accepts LINE Pay (using your PC browser) and at some physical locations.
You can also make payments by scanning QR codes at PayPay merchants.
Note: You need to be using a LINE account that's verified with a Japanese phone number.
1. From the LINE Pay main menu, tap Scan.
2. Scan the QR code on the merchant's website or at the physical store.
3. When the payment confirmation screen appears, enter the amount if necessary and tap the green button.
Note: If you haven't set a LINE Pay passcode, the screen to set one will appear.
4. Enter your LINE Pay passcode and check the transaction completion screen.
Note: If you're making a payment at a physical store, show the transaction completion screen to the cashier.

Can I use LINE Pay at store locations?
Yes, you can make payments at LINE Pay affiliated stores.
When you purchase an item, use your smartphone to scan the QR or bar code posted at the store to bring up the payment confirmation screen. Afterwards, enter your passcode to complete the transaction.
See here for a list of merchants that accept payments with LINE Pay (only available in Japanese).
To make payments:
1. From the LINE Pay main menu, tap Scan.
2. Line up the QR code inside the frame.
Note: If you can't scan the code, tap Enter Code Number at the bottom of the screen and manually enter the code number that appears with the QR code.

What is My Code used for?
The My Code feature allows you to make payments at stores by scanning your code.
1. From the main menu, tap My Code.
2. Show the generated code at the store.

Code payment methods
When making code payments, you can use your LINE Pay balance, Add & Pay, Points, and LINE Pay Bonus.
Note: Any credit card registered to your LINE Pay account other than the Visa LINE Pay credit card cannot be used with code payments.
To use your LINE Pay balance, you need to add money to it first. For information on how to do so, see this Help article.

I can't make a code payment
If you're unable to make a payment at a store that accepts code payments, it may be due to one of the following reasons.
• You're connected to a Wi-Fi network.
You may get a security error if you're connected to a store's Wi-Fi network. Disconnect from the Wi-Fi network and try making the payment once again.
• Your Visa LINE Pay credit card was not registered to LINE Pay properly (for using Add & Pay as your payment method).
For information on how to register your Visa LINE Pay credit card, see this Help article.
Note: If you want to use your LINE Pay balance as your payment method, tap Add & Pay at the top of the LINE Pay main menu and select LINE Pay balance.
• The code has expired.
Codes are only valid for five minutes. Tap Refresh and try making the payment again with a new code.
• You don't have enough money in your LINE Pay balance.
Try making the code payment again after adding money to your balance.
Note: You can check your balance from the My Code screen and the LINE Pay main menu.
• You didn't select a payment method.
You need to select a payment method the first time you make a code payment. Select LINE Pay balance or Add & Pay next to Payment method, read the important notes, then tap OK.
• Your screen is too dark or the code is not fully displayed.
Your code cannot be scanned if your screen's brightness is set too low. Make sure to increase the brightness before making a My Code payment. Also, your code may not fully appear depending on the size of your smartphone's screen. In this case, adjust the screen so your code is displayed completely.
• The cashier at the store didn't select LINE Pay or PayPay as the payment method.
At LINE Pay merchants, tell the cashier that you are paying with LINE Pay. If you're paying by scanning a PayPay QR code, tell the cashier that you are using PayPay.
Note: You may not be able to make code payments at some PayPay merchants, even if they accept making payments by scanning a QR code.

Will I get the Points I used back from a canceled payment?
When you cancel a payment, any Points that you used will be refunded along with the amount used from your LINE Pay balance.
Note: In the case of partial cancelations, your LINE Pay balance refund will be prioritized.
Keep in mind that if you are refunded Points that have already expired, you'll only be able to use them until they expire again at around 5 am the following day.

Can I specify the number of Points to use for payments?
You can specify the number of Points you want to use for online payments, the Pay bill feature, and Scan payments. The number of Points can't be specified for payments made with My Code, your LINE Pay card, or Google Pay.
If the setting to use LINE Points is turned on, payments will be made from your available Points first, and the remaining amount will be subtracted from your LINE Pay balance or from Add & Pay. If you don’t want to use your Points, you can turn them off by referring to the information in this Help article.

About the Pay bill feature
There are two ways to use the Pay bill feature in LINE Pay: Scan to pay and Paperless.
Scan to pay
Pay your bills by scanning their barcodes with the LINE or LINE Pay app.
Note: Service charges may apply depending on the issuer of the bill. For more information, see this Help article.
To pay a bill from the LINE app:
1. From the LINE Pay main menu, tap Pay bill > Scan to pay.
2. Scan the barcode on the bill.
3. Confirm the information that appears, check the box next to "I've confirmed the payment recipient and amount," and then tap Pay.
To pay a bill from the stand-alone LINE Pay app:
1. On the barcode display screen, tap Read QR code and scan the barcode on the bill.
2. Confirm the information that appears, check the box next to "I've confirmed the payment recipient and amount," and then tap Pay.
Paperless
Make paperless bill payments with bill issuers that accept them.
Note: Currently, only Tokyo Gas accepts this payment method.
To use this service, you need to link your LINE account on the bill issuer's homepage in advance. Check with your service/utility provider for details about how to sign up.
To make a paperless payment:
1. From the LINE Pay main menu, tap Pay bill > Paperless.
Note: You can also tap Pay in the details of the bill you received via chat message from LINE Wallet (LINEウォレット).
2. Confirm the information that appears, check the box next to "I've confirmed the payment recipient and amount," and then tap Pay.

I can't scan the barcode on a bill
If you're having trouble scanning a barcode, try moving the camera a little closer or further away.
Note: With an Android device, you can rotate the camera and scan the barcode horizontally.
Also, if you're using LINE with a Japanese phone number, you may not be able to make your payment due to one of the reasons mentioned in this Help article.
If you see an error, try using another payment method at a store written on the back of the bill.

I can't make payments with Pay bill
You cannot use the Pay bill feature if:
• The bill issuer doesn't accept Pay bill payments.
See here for a list of major bill issuers that accept Pay bill payments, or here for a list of public and utility fees that can be paid with Pay bill. (Only available in Japanese.)
• The amount due is JPY 50,000 or more and exceeds the bill's payment limit.
Depending on the bill issuer, there may be a set maximum payment limit that restricts Pay bill payments of JPY 50,000 or more.
• There are issues with your smartphone's network connection.
• You haven't updated the LINE or LINE Pay app to the latest version.
• The payment is overdue.
If you are unable to use Pay bill, please make the payment in person at one of the participating locations listed on the back of the bill.
If you're making a paperless payment:
You can check your bills by going to the LINE Pay main menu and tapping Pay bill > Paperless.
Note: You need to sign up for paperless payments with the bill issuer in advance.
If you've signed up for paperless payments but cannot confirm your bills, check with the service or utility provider to make sure your application has been accepted.

Can I get a receipt after using the Pay bill feature?
Will I get Points for using Pay bill?
Points are only issued for using the Pay bill feature with Add & Pay.
Note: Points are not issued for payments made using your LINE Pay balance or Points.
The number of Points you receive is based on your Point reward rate when you make a payment using Add & Pay with your Visa LINE Pay credit card.
My Number Points are not awarded for using Pay bill. For more information about My Number Points, see this LINE Pay official blog entry. (Only available in Japanese.)

Are there service charges for paying bills?
Depending on the payment recipient, service charges may apply if it is explicitly written on the bill that the customer is responsible for paying them.
• Service charge for bills under JPY 10,000: JPY 66
• Service charge for bills that are JPY 10,000 or more: JPY 110

Debit Payments
Debit Payments are subtracted immediately from your bank account linked to LINE Pay.
You can make debit payments if the Bank Account option appears on the payment screen.
If you want to change the bank account you use for making debit payments, you can do so by selecting Change from the payment screen.
Important:
- Accepted bank accounts vary by merchant.
- If the Bank Account option doesn't appear on the payment screen, you will need to register a bank account by selecting Add.
- Due to enhanced security, you may be asked to upload documents for identity verification when linking a bank.
If your LINE Pay balance doesn't appear on the payment screen, it means you linked a bank account that cannot be used for that merchant. Please try again after adding a different bank account.
If you want to receive a refund for a payment that failed due to a bank’s delayed response, please contact us via the Inquiry Form.

Making payments from LINE chats
You can make a payment by accessing the link sent to you in a LINE chat from a LINE Pay merchant.
To make a payment:
1. In the chat, tap 支払う (Pay) or 支払い用URL (Payment URL).
2. LINE Pay will open.
3. Check the amount and tap Pay [amount] on the payment screen that appears.
4. Tap OK and enter your LINE Pay passcode.

You can pay with LINE Pay's Scan feature at PayPay merchants that let you pay by scanning a QR code.
Note: You may not be able to use the Scan feature at some PayPay merchants.

When using LINE Pay at a PayPay merchant, you cannot:
• Use LINE Pay coupons.
• Participate in promotions held by PayPay.
• Pay with a version of the LINE app earlier than 11.5.0.
