Transferring your account

Before changing devices toggle

 

In order to transfer your LINE account, you will need to have the following set up BEFORE changing devices. We recommend writing down your registered email address and password from steps 1 and 2 before moving on to step 3 and 4.

 

Check out this video for the entire account transfer process.

 

1. Have an email address registered to your LINE account.

To check your registered email address, please see this article.

 

2. Set a password when you registered your email address.

You will not be able to view your password on your device.

If you have forgotten your password, please see this article.

If your registered email address is no longer available and you have forgotten your password, please see this article.

 

3. Turn ON the Allow Account Transfer setting.

This step is not required if your registered phone number will not change.

4. Back up your chat history.

How to back up and restore your chat history using Google Drive (Android)

Before changing devices, it should be noted that you cannot transfer your chat history or Coin balance between different OSes (e.g. Android to iOS and vice versa).

 

After changing devices, please install the LINE app on your new device and select Log in to transfer your account.

Setup after changing devices toggle

 

Install the LINE app on your new device and transfer your account by following the steps below:

Check out this video for the entire account transfer process.

1. Start the LINE app and tap Log in.
2. Enter the email address and password you confirmed on your previous device and tap OK.
3. Enter your phone number, confirm the verification code sent by text message or phone call and proceed to the next step.
4. Tap Continue.
Note: Steps 3 and 4 may not appear in some cases.


That is all there is to transfer your account.

To continue using your existing LINE account after changing to a new device, you need to have either registered an email address or linked it with a Facebook account on your previous device.

1. Start LINE and tap Log in.
2. Tap Log in with Facebook.
3. Log in to Facebook.

Before transferring your account, please register an email address to it.

To transfer your account with an email address, please refer to the following steps:

1. Start LINE and tap Log in.
2. Enter the email address and password registered on your previous device and tap OK.

Data that can be transferred toggle
Please see the following for a list of what can and cannot be transferred.

Data that can be transferred:
- Your friends list (including groups)
- Notes and albums
- Profile settings (profile photo, display name, Status Message, ID)
- Timeline and Home posts
- Data saved in Keep (including images, videos, text, files)
- The right to use your LINE stickers and themes (including those received as gifts)
- Your purchase history and Coin and LINE Point balance
- Registration information for linked apps, such as LINE Game titles and LINE PLAY

Note
- Coins cannot be carried over between different OSes (e.g. from iOS to Android and vice versa).

Data that cannot be transferred: 
- Your chat history

How to transfer your LINE account when restoring your iPhone from a backup toggle
You still need to transfer your LINE account after restoring from an iTunes or iCloud backup.

To transfer your account:
1. Start LINE.
2. Tap Verify on the identity verification required screen.
3. Enter your registered email address and password, then tap OK.
4. Check the following if you see the “How to finish transferring your account” screen.

• If you can still use your previous device:
Turn ON the Allow account transfer setting and then tap Continue on your new device.

• If you can’t use your previous device:
Tap Get account transfer code, then enter the verification code that will be sent to your registered phone number by text message.

5. If you see the Update notice screen, tap Verify phone number or Log in with Facebook.
