Registering/changing/checking your registered email address

Registering an email address to your LINE account makes it possible for you to reset your password in case you forget it. To register, change, or check your email address, refer to the following sections.

Registering an email address

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Account > Email address.
Note: Tap here to go to your Account settings from your smartphone.
2. Enter an email address, then tap Next.
3. Enter the verification code, or tap the URL in the email you receive > OK.

I can't receive the verification email when registering my email address

Changing your registered email address

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Account.
2. Tap Email address > Change your email.
Note: If you're asked to unlock the screen, use the unlock method you have configured on your device, such as your passcode, PIN code, or biometric identification (e.g. fingerprint, face). Do not use the password registered to your LINE account.
3. Enter a new email address, then tap Next.
4. Enter the verification code or tap the URL in the email you receive.

Note:
- If you can't register your email address, make sure you didn't enter any blank spaces.
- If your device is locked with a passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID, you need to unlock it when you change your email address.

I can't receive the verification email when registering my email address

Checking your registered email address

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Account.

2. Tap Email address.
3. Your email address will appear under Change your email.

I'm not receiving the password reset email

There are a few reasons why you may not be receiving the email to reset your LINE password or the email to finish registering your email address.

Useful info

You will be restricted from registering your email address for a certain amount of time if you repeatedly have a verification code sent. In this case, please try again after at least 24 hours have passed.

To resolve the issue, please check all of the following details.

1. Check if an email address is registered to LINE.
The password reset email is sent to the email address registered to LINE. You won't receive a password reset email if you don't have an email address registered to LINE. When you register an email address to LINE, you're sent an email containing a verification code with "LINE Email Address Verification Message" as the subject line.

Email address registration is completed by entering the verification code contained in the above email or tapping the enclosed link.

If you received an email with the above subject line and registered the email address to LINE, please enter the email address you received the above email at.

If you haven't received or can't confirm the email, it's possible you don't have an email address registered to LINE. If you don't remember your password and you don't have an email address registered, you won't be able to log in with your phone number. In this case, please try another login method.

2. Check if you entered your email address registered to LINE correctly.

If the email address you entered is different from your email address registered to LINE, you won't receive the reset email. Enter your email address correctly while making sure that:

• You are careful entering characters that are similar (e.g. the letter "o" and the number "0").

• Uppercase and lowercase letters are entered correctly.

If you saw an error message when you entered your email address, please check the email address you entered because it's possible that:

• You used full-width alphanumeric characters.

• There were spaces included.

• You used more than one dot in a row (e.g. ab..cd@example.com).

• You used a hyphen at the beginning (e.g. -abcd@example.com).

• You used a dot just before the @ sign (e.g. abcd.@example.com).

3. Check all of your email folders.
Check if the password reset email with "[LINE] Password reset for LINE" as the subject line, was misplaced in your spam folder or other non-inbox folder.

4. Check your email settings.
If you have filters in place, such as ones that block emails containing URLs or block emails from PCs, please try disabling them.

If you have domain filters in place, please add "line.me " to your list of accepted domains.

5. Resend the email.
After you check the potential issues above, send the password reset email again, and check if you receive it. If you don't receive the email, you won't be able to log in with your phone number. In this case, please try another login method.

Checking/changing your password

There is no way to directly check the password you need to transfer your LINE account. If you forgot your password, refer to either of the following steps and change it.

Note: Be sure to write your new password down so you don’t forget it.

If you still have your old device

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Account.
2. Tap Password.
Note: If you're asked to unlock the screen, use the unlock method you have configured on your device, such as your passcode or biometric identification (e.g. fingerprint, face). Do not use the password registered to your LINE account.
3. Enter your new password twice, then tap Change password.

Important: Your password must contain 8-20 non-repeating half-width characters, and be a combination of at least three of the following types (for more information, refer to Setting a secure password):
- Uppercase letters
- Lower case letters
- Numbers
- Symbols

Go to your Account settings (in the LINE smartphone app)

If you don't have your old device

Important:
- The following information only applies to LINE accounts created with LINE versions earlier than 13.11.0.
- You will not be able to reset your password if you haven't registered an email address to your LINE account.

To change your password:
1. Open LINE on your new device and tap Log in.
2. Tap Log in with phone number.
3. Check the Terms and Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy, then enter your phone number and tap the arrow > OK or Send.
4. Enter the verification code you received via text message.
Note: On some Android devices, the verification code is entered automatically. In this case, skip to the next step.
5. Tap Yes, that's my account.
Note: Or tap No, that's not me > Yes, transfer my account > Log in with previous number or Log in with email address, and enter your registered information.
6. Tap Forgot your password?
7. Enter the email address registered to your LINE account, then tap Send.
8. Rest your password by following the email that was sent to the email address you entered.

Important: Your password must contain 8-20 non-repeating half-width characters, and be a combination of at least three of the following types (for more information, refer to Setting a secure password):
- Uppercase letters
- Lower case letters
- Numbers
- Symbols

Setting a secure password

Setting a password that is difficult for other people to guess is important.

To ensure that the password you set is difficult to guess, make sure that it:

• Is a complex combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

• Doesn't use personal information, such as:

- Your nickname or initials.

- The name of a child or pet.

- A birthday or anniversary of you or a loved one.

- Your address.

• Doesn't use typical strings of characters or words, such as:

- Easy to guess words or phrases (e.g. "password" or "iloveyou").

- Consecutive letters or numbers (e.g. "123456" or "abc123").

- Strings that follow the keyboard layout (e.g. "qwerty" or "1q2w3e").

Important: Your password must contain 8-20 non-repeating half-width characters, and be a combination of at least three of the following types:

- Uppercase letters

- Lower case letters

- Numbers

- Symbols

For the best online security, make sure not to recycle passwords, but rather to set and safely manage a different passcode/password for each online service you use.

Integrating password management software and OS features is another way to achieve secure password creation and management. If you use a password manager, you can easily auto-generate passwords and don't need to worry about memorizing all of the passwords that you've made.

I can't receive the verification email when registering my email address

If you're not receiving the email with the verification code when registering your email address, it may be that:

• Your email address was not entered correctly.

• The email was sent to your spam, junk, or other folders.

• You have spam filters in place.

Note: In this case, please try again after temporarily disabling them.

E.g. This includes filters for blocking emails that contain URLs, blocking emails from PCs, etc.

• You have settings in place to only receive emails from certain domains.

Note: If you have domain filters in place on your email client, make sure that you allow emails from the domain "line.me".

If the issue persists after checking the above, please try tapping Resend verification code to send the email again.

I want to transfer my LINE account, but I don’t know my password

Unfortunately, there is no way to check the password you need to transfer your LINE account. If you don't know your password, follow the steps below to reset it:

1. On your new device, open LINE and tap Log in.

2. Enter your phone number and tap the arrow.

3. Enter the six-digit verification code that's sent to you via text message.

4. Tap Yes, that's my account.

Note: If you see Yes, transfer my account, tap it followed by Log in with previous number or Log in with email address, then enter your registered information.

5. Tap Forgot your password?

6. Enter the email address registered to your LINE account.

Note: You will not be able to reset your password if you haven't registered an email address to your LINE account.

To unlock this screen, use the unlock method you have configured on your device.
