If the phone numbers saved in your device's contacts are registered with LINE, they will automatically appear in your friend list on LINE. When this happens, the name saved in your device's contacts will appear as their display name on LINE.
Note: If you're using LINE outside of Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand, adding friends by phone number is only available if your account was created on a version earlier than 13.11.0 and still has a registered phone number.

For this reason, the person appearing in your friend list might be different from the actual person using the LINE account when:
• The phone number's owner has changed.
• You have multiple phone numbers saved under the same name in your contacts.
• Your friend's phone number is saved incorrectly in your contacts.
• Your old phone number is still saved in someone else's contacts.

Issues happening on your LINE account

Situation	Details
Someone who doesn't use LINE appears in my friend list	Cause: The phone number registered in your device's contacts is either incorrect or outdated.
Someone who doesn't use LINE appears in my friend list	Action to take: Check your device's contacts and update the phone number.
An account that appears in my friend list belongs to a different person	Cause: More than one phone number is saved under the same name in your contacts.
	Action to take: Check to see if you have multiple entries with the same name in your contacts.
Someone's name in my friend list suddenly changed	Cause: The name registered in your device's contacts changed.
Someone's name in my friend list suddenly changed	Action to take: Check if you updated their name in your device's contacts or if they changed their LINE display name. Note: See the Useful Info section below this table for details.
There's an account that appears in my friend list under my name	Cause: An old phone number of yours may be registered in your device's contacts.
	Action to take: Check whether an old phone number from a previous contract is registered under your name in your device's contacts.

Useful info

- You can see the name someone has set on LINE for their account by tapping {pen icon} next to their display name.
- If you see an unfamiliar name, it's possible that your friend has already changed their phone number.

Issues happening on another person's device

Situation	Details
An account or multiple accounts under my name appear on their LINE account, even though I don't use the service	Cause: An old number of yours is saved in their contacts.
	Action to take: Ask them to delete your old phone number from their contacts and delete the LINE account after hiding or blocking it.
Someone I don't know sees my name on their LINE account when I registered a newly contracted phone number to my LINE account	Cause: The previous owner of your new phone number is saved in their contacts.
	Action to take: Ask them to delete the LINE account after hiding or blocking it.
Multiple accounts under my name appear on their LINE account	Cause You may have created a LINE account on a new device without deleting the account on your previous device, resulting in multiple accounts.
	Action to take: Ask them to block your previous LINE account.

Useful info

- If someone you don't know appears in your friend list, you can delete them after hiding or blocking them.
- We recommend turning on the Filter messages setting to prevent receiving messages from users you don't know.
