Logging in with an email address

What should I do if I forgot my password? toggle
The steps differ depending on the type of device you are using LINE on.

If you signed up for your account from the PC version of LINE
Reset your password by following the steps below:

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Click Reset Password on the bottom of the login screen.
3. Enter your registered email address and click OK.

If you don't receive the password reset email, see here.

If you signed up for your account from the smartphone version of LINE
Please reset your password from the smartphone version of the app.


You can also reset your password from the PC version of LINE by following the steps below: 
1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Click Reset Password on the bottom of the login screen.
3. Enter your registered email address and click OK.

Logging in automatically toggle
On the Windows and Mac versions of LINE, you can log in automatically without having to enter your email address and password every time.
Note: Use this on your own PC to protect your personal information.

On the login screen, check the Log me in automatically option or follow the steps below:

1. Log in from the PC version of LINE.
2. Click the settings icon > Settings.
3. Click Basic > check the box for Log me in automatically under Login Settings.

I'm not receiving the password reset email toggle
Please check the following if you are not receiving the password reset email:

- Is your registered email address entered correctly?
- Did you enter an email address different from your registered one?
- Are you trying to send the password reset email repeatedly within a short period of time?

Note: You may not be able to receive the password reset email properly if you repeatedly sent a request for it. Please wait over 24 hours before sending a request again.

- Has the email been delivered to your spam, junk, or other folders?
- Do you have spam filters in place that block emails with URLs or that were sent from a PC? If so, please disable them.
- Do you have settings in place to only receive emails from certain domains? If so, please add “line.me” to your list of accepted domains.

- Does the email address you are using comply to RFC standards? 

The following are examples of email addresses that do not comply to RFC standards:

- Addresses with a dot (.) right before the @ symbol: abcd.@xxx.com
- Addresses with consecutive dots (.): ab..cd@xxx.com
- Addresses that begin with a hyphen (-): -abcd@xxx.com

How can I log into my account if my email address is not available? toggle
If you are unable to use your email address and password, you will not be able to log in using an email address. However, if you are using the the smartphone version of LINE, you can log in to your account using either of the following methods:

Logging in with an email address toggle
To log in to the PC version of LINE using an email address, you must first register an email address on the device that you normally use LINE on.

See here for the steps to register an email address.

After registering your email address, please try the steps below.
Note: If you haven't already installed the PC version of LINE, you can download it here.

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Click Email Login.
3. Enter your registered email address and password, then choose Login.

Registering an email address toggle
The steps to register an email address differ depending on the type of device you are using LINE on.

If you signed up for your account from the PC version of LINE
You can change your email address by following the steps below.

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Log in with your phone number.
3. Click the cogwheel icon > Settings.
Note: For the Chrome version of LINE, click the down arrow next to LINE on the top of the screen.
4. Click Basic > Register Email.
5. Enter the email address you want to register, then click Next.
6. Enter the verification code sent to your email address, then click Next.

If you cannot log in to the PC version of LINE with your phone number, you won't be able to register an email address.

If you signed up for your account from the smartphone version of LINE
You cannot register an email address from the PC version of LINE. Please register a email address on the smartphone version of the app.

I forgot my registered email address toggle
The steps to check your email address differ depending on the type of device you're using.

If you signed up for your account from the PC version of LINE
You can check your email address with the following steps:

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Log in with your phone number.
3. Click the settings icon > Settings.
4. Click Basic > your email address will appear next to Email.

If you can't log into the PC version of LINE with your phone number, you will not be able to check your email address.

If you signed up for your account from the smartphone version of LINE
You will not be able to check your email address from the PC version of LINE if you can’t log in to it. In this case, please check your email address from the smartphone version of LINE.
