Chat history is stored within the app itself. Due to this specification you will not be able to carry over or restore your chat history in the following cases.

- You delete the chat history yourself.
- You uninstall then reinstall the app.
- You change your device for any reason (such as for repair).
- You update from Windows 8 to Windows 10 and when you start LINE you do not select to restore your chat history. In this case you can restore your chat history from Settings > Chats & Voice Calls > Restore Chat History.

What are the [Read] signs? Do the times shown tell us when the message was read? toggle
The Read signs indicate that the person has seen your message.
In group chat-rooms, the signs will be shown as Read by 2 etc., showing the number of people who have seen your message within the group.

Depending upon the other person’s device, the Read signs may be shown when the person has received notification of your message, and therefore it does not necessarily mean that the person has read your message.

The times displayed indicate the time you sent the messages.
It is not the time the other person viewed the message.

Please use these features as a rough estimate only.

What is Letter Sealing? toggle
Letter Sealing is a feature that provides End-to-end encryption (E2EE) for chat room messages. E2EE is a communication system designed so that messages saved on our servers are encrypted and cannot be read by anyone except the sender and receiver of the message.

You can use Letter Sealing from LINE version 5.0.0 (with Windows 10 Mobile) or later.

You will be able to read your chat messages as usual, but with added security if both the sender and receiver have turned on Letter Sealing.

If you use the PC version of LINE (Mac and Windows OS) after turning on Letter Sealing, you will be required to verify your identity the first time you log in by entering a 6 digit verification code on the smartphone version of LINE.
