Phone number verification/Account transfer verification
Important: The contents of this article only apply to LINE accounts created with LINE versions earlier than 13.11.0 if you're not using LINE in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand.
When you request a verification code, the LINE app will send you one via text message or phone call.
These verification codes are sent out using a system designated by LINE. The phone number used may appear as either a domestic or overseas number.
If you requested the verification code:
Please proceed with the verification process using the code that was sent to you.
If you received a verification code but didn't request one:
It’s possible someone entered your phone number by mistake. In this case, please disregard the text message or phone call.
Important: Even if you did not request a verification code, be sure to never share this code with anyone.

If the phone number you use for verification has been registered to a LINE account before, the name registered to that account will appear. This is for making sure that the correct LINE account will be transferred.
If the LINE account that appears isn't yours, please tap No, that's not me.

To sign up for a new LINE account or transfer an existing one, identity verification (only for users in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand) or account transfer verification is required.
Identity verification (only applies to LINE accounts created with LINE versions earlier than 13.11.0 if you're not using LINE in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand)
Phone number verification is the first step that's required when signing up for or transferring a LINE account. You can only verify a phone number that can receive text messages or phone calls.
Note: Landlines, phone numbers starting with 050, and virtual phone numbers can't be used, so be sure to use a phone number offered by a mobile service provider.
You can verify your phone number via text message or phone call.
Verification via text message
You need a phone number and a device that can receive text messages.
To verify your phone number via text message:
1. Start LINE and tap Sign up or Log in.
2. Tap Log in with another method > Log in with phone number.
3. Select your country, enter your phone number, check the Terms and Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy, then tap the arrow > Send or OK.
Note:
- For users in Thailand, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 11 years old.
- For users in Korea, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 14 years old and you've agreed to the Terms and Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy.
4. Enter the verification code you received via text message.
Note: On some Android devices, the verification code is entered automatically. In this case, skip to the next step.
Verification via phone call
This method verifies the phone number you entered by receiving a phone call to that phone number. You can use this option if text messaging isn't available on your device.
Note: The Call me instead option is only available in some countries.
To use the Call me instead option:
1. Start LINE and tap Sign up or Log in.
2. Tap Log in with another method > Log in with phone number.
3. Check the Terms and Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy, then enter your phone number and tap the arrow > Send or OK.
Note:
- For users in Thailand, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 11 years old.
- For users in Korea, you can only proceed to the next screen if you're at least 14 years old and you've agreed to the Terms and Conditions of Use and Privacy Policy.
4. Tap Call me instead at the bottom of the verification code input screen.
5. Tap Continue.
6. After receiving the automated phone call, enter the verification code you were given.
Note: The call may be from an overseas phone number.
Account transfer verification
If you're not transferring your LINE account using the same phone number registered to your account, you'll need to complete the verification required to transfer your LINE account on the "How to finish transferring your account" screen. Note: This option is only available when you're continuing to use the same phone number with a LINE account created on a version of LINE earlier than 13.11.0 if you're not using LINE in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand.
If you see the "How to finish transferring your account" screen when transferring your LINE account, you can continue doing so with either of the following methods.
If you can use LINE on your previous device before changing to a new device
• Turn on the Skip 2-step authentication setting on your old phone:
1. On your old smartphone, go to the Home tab and tap Settings > Account transfer options.
2. Turn the Skip 2-step authentication setting ON.
3. On your new smartphone, tap Continue on the "How to finish transferring your account" screen that appears.
You need to transfer your account within 36 hours of turning this setting on. If you don't have enough time, turn the Skip 2-step authentication setting off and then back on to reset the timer to 36 hours.
• Use your old smartphone to verify your account transfer:
1. Tap Get account transfer code on the “How to finish transferring your account” screen.
2. Check the account transfer code that's sent to your old smartphone from the LINE official account.
3. Enter the account transfer code on your new smartphone.
4. Tap OK.
If you're using LINE for PC
1. Tap Get account transfer code on the “How to finish transferring your account” screen.
2. Check the account transfer code that's sent to you on LINE for PC from the LINE official account.
3. Enter the account transfer code on your new smartphone.
4. Tap OK.
If you can't use LINE on either your old smartphone or on a PC

As of November 15, 2023, you are no longer able to sign up for a new LINE account using a phone number.
Going forward, the only verification methods available to sign up for a new LINE account are with an Apple ID (on iOS) or a Google account (on Android).
If you're using a LINE account created by November 14, 2023, we recommend linking a Facebook account, Apple ID, or Google account beforehand in case you want to transfer your LINE account in the future.
If you change to a Hong Kong, Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, or Thai phone number, please register an email address beforehand.
