Notifications in LINE use the notification service/system provided by Apple or Google, so your device or your network connection may be affecting your LINE notifications. For this reason, we are unable to conduct a detailed investigation into these systems.
If you're having issues with notifications, you may be able to resolve the issue by
checking your device and LINE settings.
Please check the following sections in order.
Useful info
- If someone sent you a message using the Silent messaging feature, you won't receive a notification.
- There is no way to know on LINE if someone is using the Silent Messaging feature.
Notification settings
Turning on LINE notifications
- Tap your device's Settings > Notifications.
- Tap LINE in your list of apps.
- Turn on Allow Notifications.
- Scroll down and tap LINE Notification Settings.
- Turn on Notifications.
- Tap the Home tab >
> Notifications. - Tap Notifications at the top of the screen.
- Tap Notification settings.
- Tap All notifications.
- Tap Message notifications.
- Turn on Show notifications.
Turning on notifications for each chat
If
appears next to a chat's name, it means notifications
are turned off.
To turn on notifications, please follow the steps below.
- Tap
at the top of a chat. - Tap Unmute.
Unmuting notifications
- Tap the Home tab >
> Notifications.
- Tap Mute.
- Tap Off or Unmute.
Configuring notifications on LINE for PC
If you're using LINE for PC, please check the following setting. If you only use LINE on your smartphone, you don't need to do this.
- From the LINE for PC main menu, click
> Settings. - Click Notifications.
- Under Mobile notifications, select Always.
Solutions to common notification issues
If the issue persists even after checking your notification settings, refer to the section that matches your situation.
I'm not receiving notifications
You may be able to receive notifications by reviewing your device's settings (e.g. Low Power/Do Not Disturb mode, Background data).
Be advised
1. Change the Low Data Mode setting
- Tap your device's Settings > Cellular.
- Tap Cellular Data Options > Data Mode.
- Select Standard.
2. Disable Low Power Mode
- Tap your device's Settings > Battery.
- Tap Power Mode and turn off Low Power Mode.
3. Turn off Focus/Do Not Disturb mode

1. Turn off Battery Saver and Adaptive Battery
- Tap your device's Settings > Battery.
- Tap Battery Saver and turn off Use Battery Saver.
- Tap
to return to the
previous screen, then tap Adaptive
preferences and turn off Adaptive Battery.
2. Turn off battery optimization
- Tap your device's Settings > Network & Internet.
- Tap Data Saver and turn off Use Data Saver.
3. Turn off battery optimization
- Tap your device's Settings > Apps > LINE.
- Tap Battery > Unrestricted.
4. Turn on Background data
- Tap your device's Settings > Apps > LINE.
- Tap Mobile data & Wi-Fi.
- Turn on Background data and Unrestricted data usage.
My phone doesn't ring when receiving notifications or voice calls
1. Turn off Silent mode
Please see Silence iPhone.
2. Turn on Sounds
- Tap your device's Settings > Notifications.
- Tap LINE in your list of apps.
- Turn on Sounds.
3. Change your notification sound
- In the LINE app, tap the Home tab
>
> Notifications. - Tap Sound.
- Choose your desired sound.
If you have issues with the ringtone for voice calls, and only missed calls are shown in chats, please also check the following setting.
Switch Integrated calling on your iPhone off then on
- In the LINE app, tap the Home tab
>
> Calls and turn off Integrated calling. - Turn this setting back on after confirming that incoming call notifications appear when it's turned off.
1. Turn off Do Not Disturb
- Tap your device's Settings > Notifications.
- Tap Do Not Disturb > TURN OFF NOW.
2. Set your ringtone to ring
- Tap your device's Settings > Notifications.
- Tap App settings > LINE.
- Tap Message notifications > Default.
3. Change your device to sound mode
- Press the volume button on the side of your smartphone.
- Select the bell icon (the icon without a line going through it) at the top of the volume adjustment bar.
4. Change your notification sound
- In the LINE app, tap the Home tab
>
> Notifications. - Tap Message notifications > Sound.
- Choose your desired sound.
A notification badge doesn't appear on the LINE app icon
Turn on Badges
- Tap your device's Settings > Notifications.
- Tap LINE in your list of apps.
- Turn on Badges.
If you changed the launcher (the app that lets you customize
your home screen), change it back to the one that was set when you purchased your
device.
Some launchers won't display notification badges even with the settings
below. For this reason, please see if the badges appear by changing to the original
launcher.

1. Show dots for all apps
- Tap your device's Settings > Notifications.
- Turn on Notification dot on app icon.
2. Show the dot for the LINE app
- Tap your device's Settings > Notifications.
- Tap App settings.
- Tap LINE and turn on All LINE notifications.
- Tap Allow notification dot.
Issues remain after trying all of the settings
If the issue persists even after you've tried everything above, please try the following actions.
- Update your operating system (OS) to the latest version.
- Update LINE to the latest version.
- Restart your device.
- Delete unnecessary data from your smartphone or other storage (e.g. SD card).
- Turn your 4G/5G/Wi-Fi off and on again.
- Refer to the section based on your OS below and reinstall the LINE app.
- Back up your chat history.
- Delete the LINE app and then reinstall it from the App Store.
- Transfer your LINE account.
- Once the screen to restore your chat history appears, tap Restore chat history.
- Back up your chat history.
- Delete the LINE app and then reinstall it from the Google Play Store.
- Transfer your LINE account.
- Once the screen to restore your chat history appears, tap Restore chat history.
Be advised
- If you're still unable to resolve the issue after checking everything above, the cause may be related to your device.
- In this case, please contact your mobile service provider or device manufacturer.
- Try updating the LINE app and your OS to the latest versions when they become available.
