To ensure that the account transfer process goes smoothly, you need to check your account information and make some preparations on your device in advance.
We recommend regularly checking your registered information to prepare for unforeseen circumstances such as changing your smartphone due to it being lost or broken, or restoring it to its factory settings.
Useful info
- The following information is geared towards users who can use their previous LINE account.
- If you can't use your previous LINE account, you won't be able to make preparations to transfer it. In this case, please transfer your account by referring to the LINE account transfer guide.
1. Update the LINE app to the latest version
Be advised
- Premium Backup can be used with LINE version 15.5.1 and later. If you transfer your account to a device with an unsupported LINE version, you will not be able to use the Premium Backup feature.
- If you're transferring your LINE account to a different OS (between Android and iPhone devices) and the LINE app version on your new device is older than on your previous device, you may not be able to restore your backup. Please make sure both devices have the latest version of LINE installed.
Access the LINE official
website and tap Download to update your application to the latest version.
Note: The link above can only be accessed from your smartphone.
iOS users will be directed to the App Store, while Android users will be
directed to the Google Play Store. If you are already using the latest version of LINE, there is no need to
update.
2. Update your device's OS to the latest version
Check your device's OS version and update it to the latest one.
iOS: Go to your
device's Settings > General > Software Update.
Android: Go to your device's Settings > About phone > Android version.
Note: The actual screens and settings may differ
depending on your device and version of Android.
3. Set or check the information required for transferring your LINE account
Make sure that the phone number and email address registered to your LINE account match the ones you're currently using.
Also, we recommend changing/resetting your password to securely transfer your LINE account.
Note: Link an Apple ID or Google account if you don't have a phone number registered to your LINE account.
4. Back up your chat history
To restore your chat history on your new device, you need to back up your chat history
in advance.
If you can't back up your chat history or if you're transferring your account to a different
operating system (OS), you can automatically transfer your chat history from the last 14 days by setting a backup PIN
beforehand.
If you're using Premium Backup, you can back up your chat history, including text messages and media
content (photos, videos, files, and voice messages), regardless of the OS you're using.
Note: Premium
Backup is only available to LYP Premium (Japan) or LINE Premium (Taiwan and Thailand) members.
- We recommend saving important photos and videos to LINE albums or to your device.
5. Transfer your LINE account using the method that matches your situation
After completing sections 1 to 4 above, refer to the LINE account transfer guide to transfer your account.
