Attention
Any attempts to ask for your LINE registered information (phone number, email address, password) or verification code, or for you to enter it on a screen, are all scams. Your LINE registered information will not be used for any purpose other than transferring your LINE account yourself.

This section covers specific examples of ways accounts are stolen, as well as sample messages or texts that are used in these scams. All of the following messages are scams. If you receive any of the following kinds of messages, do not respond to them.
Message content and examples
• Messages saying, "Your account has been restricted (or your LINE data has disappeared). Log in from the link below to help us lift the restriction on your account."
Accessing the links in these types of messages will redirect you to a fake LINE login screen. LINE does not use these types of methods to lift restrictions on accounts (due to violating our Terms of Use), or to restore lost data.
• Messages from someone pretending to be a delivery person, saying things like "You need to reschedule a delivery," "Delivery address unknown," or "Your package was kept on hold," trying to get you to access a URL.
Accessing the URLs in these messages may result in the installation of malicious apps or files, or redirect you to phishing sites posing as delivery services, potentially allowing remote access to your text messages. This unauthorized access poses the risk of third parties using your text messages to verify your phone number and create a LINE account without your consent.
• Messages impersonating a friend through LINE or social media, asking you for your phone number or verification code.
• A message urging you to take an online poll, saying something like, "Can you vote for my pet?"
Messages urging you to participate in an online poll, such as to vote for someone's pet, will lead you to a screen that prompts you to enter information such as your phone number and password registered with LINE.
• LINE-related phishing emails
Phishing scams are evolving with each passing day. Recently, there have been reports of scams that use threatening messages like "Your LINE account will be suspended if you do not verify your account again within 48 hours," to prompt users to tap on links in an attempt to steal their LINE account information.
Please keep the following important points in mind.
- Check the sender's email domain
The official email address used by LINE is "xxxx@line.me". Be cautious of any emails coming from domains other than "line.me".
- Pay attention to the email content
LINE will never suddenly ask users to verify their accounts again via email unless they have initiated the request themselves, such as for account transfers or when contacting LINE.
- Look for any unusual characters in the link address
The link in the email directing you to verify your account again might contain suspicious characters, such as those enclosed in square brackets or full-width alphabets. In such cases, do not tap on the link under any circumstances.
How a LINE account can be stolen:
Many unauthorized logins (thefts) of LINE accounts occur due to actions such as those mentioned below.
Your account can be stolen if you:
• Shared your phone number registered to LINE and verification code with a third party (including a friend or family member).
• Entered your phone number and verification code on a screen other than the one for transferring your LINE account.
Malicious acts of getting you to enter your LINE registered information (phone number, email address, password) or verification code into a fraudulent screen to steal your LINE account are called phishing. Phishing scams use various tactics, such as pretending to be one of your contacts or a company, or sending messages that create anxiety about your LINE account's security being compromised.
If you received a message like the ones above, do not open any links within the message or enter your email address and password on any login screen that appears after accessing a link. Even if you accidentally logged in, DO NOT enter the verification code under any circumstances.
What to do if you accidentally logged in on a phishing site:
If you accidentally logged in on a phishing site:
1. Change your LINE password.
2. Change your password for other companies' services.
Important: If you’re using the same password you registered on LINE with other companies' services, immediately change those passwords, as it’s possible the scammers will attempt to log in to those accounts as well.
3. Contact LINE.
Note: If you come across any suspicious emails or messages claiming to be from LINE, please report them.

Important: The contents of this article only apply to LINE accounts created with LINE versions earlier than 13.11.0 if you're not using LINE in Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand.
If the phone number you have registered to LINE isn't the same as your current phone number, you may suddenly become unable to use LINE.
E.g.
You register phone number A to LINE, but then cancel or change it.
▼
You continue using LINE with the cancelled phone number A still registered to it.
▼
A certain amount of time passes, and someone else makes a new contract with phone number A.
▼
The person newly contracted with phone number A registers it to LINE.
▼
Phone number A is removed from your LINE account, which then becomes inaccessible.
You register phone number A to LINE, but then cancel or change it.
▼
You continue using LINE with the cancelled phone number A still registered to it.
▼
A certain amount of time passes, and someone else makes a new contract with phone number A.
▼
The person newly contracted with phone number A registers it to LINE.
▼
Phone number A is removed from your LINE account, which then becomes inaccessible.
Once a certain amount of time passes after cancelling your phone number, it can be contracted to and used by someone else.
Be sure to register your current phone number to LINE if it has changed. You can confirm and change your registered phone number from the Account screen.
Note: Changing the phone number you have registered to LINE does not affect your data (e.g. friend list, stickers, chat history) saved on LINE.

With the merger of LINE and Yahoo! JAPAN, we combined our privacy policies on October 1, 2023, and informed users via LINE and Yahoo! JAPAN apps and services that they could wait before agreeing to it for a certain period.
Starting on May 2025, you will need to agree to the new LY Corporation Privacy Policy to continue using our services, as you will no longer be able to wait before agreeing to it.
If you haven't agreed to the new Privacy Policy yet, a screen prompting you to agree will appear when you log in to a service. Please follow the on-screen instructions to agree to the LY Corporation Privacy Policy.

The LINE VOOM service in Hong Kong and Indonesia ended on February 14, 2025.
Note:
- This information does not apply to users of the LINE VOOM service in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.
- The LINE VOOM service outside of Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand ended on September 7, 2023.
With the end of the service, we plan to proceed as follows:
• The Voom tab will be removed from the menu at the bottom of the LINE app.
• Your posts will become unavailable and you won't be able to create new posts.
• You won't be able to view posts from your friends and the users you follow.
• You won't be able to view or create stories.
On May 29, 2025, all post-related data is scheduled to be deleted.
Note: The exact date is subject to change. We will notify users in advance if there are changes to the above-mentioned dates.
You can apply to back up your own posts made on LINE VOOM in Hong Kong and Indonesia using the following page.

FAQs
This Help article covers what happens when you see an error such as "This message can't be displayed" and can't view messages that were sent/received in the past.
If you've done any of the following, Letter Sealing (a feature that enhances security for sending and receiving messages) will be applied, and you may not be able to view messages that were sent or received in the past.
You transferred your LINE account to a device with the same OS (e.g. iOS to iOS) without backing up and restoring your chats
If you've backed up your chats on your old device before transferring your account, you can view them on your new device.
You transferred your account to a device with a different OS (e.g. iOS to Android)
If you transferred your account to a device with a different OS, you cannot transfer your past chat messages. When transferring your chat history to a device with a different OS, you can transfer your chat history from the last 14 days by using a backup PIN.
You received chat messages while transferring your account
Any chat messages you received from friends while transferring your account cannot be transferred to your new device.
You cannot re-display past messages that can no longer be viewed. If you want to see your past messages, please ask the other person in the chat to resend you any old messages that you need.
Some of these error messages include the following.
- "This message can't be displayed"
- "Unable to display message as it couldn't be decrypted."
- "This message wasn't backed up and restored from your previous device. Unfortunately, there's no way to read it on your current device."

If there are issues with the name of a friend or group, try the suggestions in The names of friends/groups appear as "Empty chat," "No members," or "Unknown".

Be advised
If you're unable to add a friend via ID or phone number search, please try adding them using a QR code, a link to add a friend, or through a group member.
If a friend can't be added via ID or phone number search, see the following information.
They haven't set a LINE ID
LINE accounts that have not set an ID will not appear in search results.
Contact the friend you want to add and ask them to check if they've set a LINE ID. If they haven't set a LINE ID, let them know they need to do so for you to add them via ID search.
Unable to search for IDs/phone numbers due to each other's settings
Note: Please follow the steps below on your main device (typically your smartphone).
To allow ID searches:
1. Open LINE on the main device your account is registered to.
2. Tap the Home tab >

I thought I added a friend using a QR code, but they don't appear as a friend
To become friends with each other on LINE using a QR code, you both need to try the following steps to complete the process.
If you're scanning a friend's QR code (for the person who started the QR code reader):
By sending your friend a sticker or message after adding them as a friend, they can easily add you from their chat with you that appears on LINE.
If someone is scanning your QR code (for the person showing their QR code):
After your friend scans your QR code, tap the Home tab >
> and add them from under Friend recommendations from your LINE account. You can also have them send you a message on LINE and add them from the chat.
I see a message saying "User not found"
Scan the QR code again after it's been regenerated.
To regenerate your QR code:
1. Tap
on the right side of the search bar.
Note: The search bar appears at the top of the Home and Chats tabs.
2. Tap My QR code.
3. Tap Regenerate > OK or Confirm.
If you're still unable to add friends via QR code after following the above steps, please try a different method.
If the above error message appears, you will not be able to add the account in question as a friend.

I have Auto-add friends turned on, but my contacts weren't added
If you have Auto-add friends turned on, but a contact wasn't added to your friend list on LINE, both you and your contact need to check the settings.Your contact's LINE account settings

If someone sent you a message using the Silent messaging feature, you won't receive a notification. There is no way to tell on LINE if someone is using the Silent messaging feature or not.
If the issue remains after configuring the settings under the Notification settings and Solutions to common notification issues sections, please perform the actions under the Issues remain after trying all of the settings section in that order.

About Letter Sealing:
Letter Sealing uses a technology called end-to-end encryption.
End-to-end encryption is a communication method that makes it so that only the sender and receiver of a message can decrypt its content. Message content is saved in an encrypted state on the server, as well. When both the sender and receiver of a message have Letter Sealing turned on, the message can be sent and received with greater security using this feature.
Letter Sealing is currently turned on by default so users can exchange messages in chats more securely and safely.
Information Letter Sealing is applied to:
Letter Sealing encrypts the following information sent as messages.
• Text messages (not including messages sent through other services like YouTube)
• Location information
• Photos/Videos/Voice messages
• Files
• Voice/video calls in 1-on-1 chats
While client-server transport layer encryption is applied, Letter Sealing isn't applied to the following.
• Voice/video calls in group chats
• Meetings
• Albums
• Notes
Be advised- There is no option for disabling Letter Sealing as it is a means of enhancing security and protection on LINE.
- After transferring your LINE account, Letter Sealing may prevent you from viewing messages sent and received in the past. In this case, refer to "This message can't be displayed" appears and I can't see chat messages.
Confirming if Letter Sealing is enabled:
To verify whether Letter Sealing is enabled, follow the steps below and if key fingerprints are visible, it indicates that the feature is active.

Note:
- This won't appear if Letter Sealing is turned off. To enable it, open the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab >

Verifying your identity on secondary devices:
If you use LINE on a secondary device after turning on Letter Sealing, you'll be required to verify your identity the first time you send a message by entering a verification code on LINE on your main device.
If you do not see the verification code entry screen on LINE on your main device, verify your identity again with the steps below.
Note: To send messages with LINE on your secondary device with Letter Sealing turned on in LINE on your main device, you need to verify your identity.
1. Restart LINE on your main device.
2. Log in to LINE on your secondary device.
3. Open a chat from
on the main menu.4. Select Verify my identity and get a verification code.

If the phone number you have registered to LINE isn't the same as your current phone number, you may suddenly become unable to use LINE.
E.g.
You register phone number A to LINE, but then cancel or change it.

You continue using LINE with the cancelled phone number A still registered to it.
▼
A certain amount of time passes, and someone else makes a new contract with phone number A.
▼
The person newly contracted with phone number A registers it to LINE.
▼
Phone number A is removed from your LINE account, which then becomes inaccessible.
You register phone number A to LINE, but then cancel or change it.
▼
You continue using LINE with the cancelled phone number A still registered to it.
▼
A certain amount of time passes, and someone else makes a new contract with phone number A.

The person newly contracted with phone number A registers it to LINE.

Once a certain amount of time passes after cancelling your phone number, it can be contracted to and used by someone else.
Be sure to register your current phone number to LINE if it has changed. You can confirm and change your registered phone number from the Account screen.

If the following screen saying "You've been logged out of your account" suddenly appeared, it may be for one of the following reasons.
Reasons:
• You haven't registered your currently contracted phone number to LINE
• You entered and verified the same phone number with LINE on another device
• Someone else entered your information (e.g. verification code, phone number, password, account transfer code) on another device
You haven't registered your currently contracted phone number to LINE:
If the phone number you registered to LINE isn't the same as your current phone number (e.g. you canceled your previous phone number and got a new one) you may suddenly be logged out of LINE.
Once a certain amount of time passes after canceling your phone number, someone else can receive a contract for it and use it.
With LINE, the same phone number cannot be registered to multiple LINE accounts. If the new owner of the phone number registers it to LINE, the LINE account previously registered with that number becomes unavailable.

To prevent the same situation from occurring in the future, be sure to register your latest phone number to LINE if it changes.

Check if your contract allows you to receive text messages
If you're using an MVNO, it's possible the plan you're contracted with doesn't let you receive text messages. Check if your mobile plan lets you receive text messages or go to your settings page on your mobile service provider's website or contact their customer support.
If you can't receive text messages, try selecting Call me instead to verify your phone number. If you can't use text messages or verify your phone number with the Call me instead option, you will not be able to sign up for a LINE account.

About your email address:
You are required to enter your email address when:
• You're transferring your LINE account (only with some methods).
• You're logging in to LINE on a device other than the smartphone version of LINE (e.g. iPad, PC).
• You're logging in to the browser version of a LINE service (e.g. LINE STORE).
• You don't have a device you can access LINE on and wish to change your password.
You can register an email address anytime, as long as you have a device you can access LINE on.

You may be asked to enter a verification code on your main device when you log in to LINE for the first time or when you reinstall LINE on your sub device. If you're asked to enter a verification code, see the following steps.
1. Start LINE on your main device.

Biometric logins are only supported on iPads.
You can log in with the biometric information (e.g. face, fingerprint) registered to your main device when you use an iPad as a sub device with the same LINE account as your main device.
By logging in with your biometric information, you can manage your LINE account more securely than with using an email address and password.
Note: Your biometric information isn't saved on the LINE app or servers.

How logins with biometric information work
When logging in to LINE with biometric information for the first time:
1. Start LINE on your sub device.
2. Enter your phone number and tap Log in with smartphone.
3. Tap Show verification code.
4. Start LINE on your main device and tap the Home tab > > Account > Pair a new device.
5. Enter the verification code that appears on your sub device into your main device.
6. Authenticate the login with the biometric information on your main device when prompted to do so.
When logging in after the first time:
1. Start LINE on your sub device.
2. Enter your phone number and tap Log in with smartphone.
3. Start LINE on your main device and authenticate the login with the biometric information when prompted to do so.
"Login successful!" will appear when you're logged in. The LINE official account will also send a login notification message to you on your main device.
Useful info
If logins with biometric information have been locked, be sure to enter the passcode or PIN configured on your main device, which is not the same as the passcode lock for LINE.
Logging out of LINE on your sub device:
To log out of LINE on your sub device:
1. On your sub device, tap Settings > Account.
2. iPad: Tap Log out > OK > OK.
Android device: Tap Log out > Log out.
Important: To log in to LINE on Android as a sub device, you need to use LINE version 15.3.0 or later. Update to the latest version of LINE.

You may be asked to enter a verification code on your main device when you log in to LINE for the first time or when you reinstall LINE on your sub device. If you're asked to enter a verification code, see the following steps.
1. Start LINE on your main device.
2. Enter the verification code that appears on your sub device into your main device.
3. Confirm that the device you are trying to log in with is correct, and check the box.
4. Tap Verify.

- If the screen to enter the verification code doesn't appear on LINE on your main device, restart LINE on your main device and try logging in to LINE on your sub device again.

Message content and examples
• Messages saying, "Your account has been restricted (or your LINE data has disappeared). Log in from the link below to help us lift the restriction on your account."
Accessing the links in these types of messages will redirect you to a fake LINE login screen. LINE does not use these types of methods to lift restrictions on accounts (due to violating our Terms of Use), or to restore lost data.
• Messages from someone pretending to be a delivery person, saying things like "You need to reschedule a delivery," "Delivery address unknown," or "Your package was kept on hold," trying to get you to access a URL.
Accessing the URLs in these messages may result in the installation of malicious apps or files, or redirect you to phishing sites posing as delivery services, potentially allowing remote access to your text messages. This unauthorized access poses the risk of third parties using your text messages to verify your phone number and create a LINE account without your consent.
• Messages impersonating a friend through LINE or social media, asking you for your phone number or verification code.
• A message urging you to take an online poll, saying something like, "Can you vote for my pet?"
Messages urging you to participate in an online poll, such as to vote for someone's pet, will lead you to a screen that prompts you to enter information such as your phone number and password registered with LINE.
• LINE-related phishing emails
Phishing scams are evolving with each passing day. Recently, there have been reports of scams that use threatening messages like "Your LINE account will be suspended if you do not verify your account again within 48 hours," to prompt users to tap on links in an attempt to steal their LINE account information.
Please keep the following important points in mind.
- Check the sender's email domain
The official email address used by LINE is "xxxx@line.me". Be cautious of any emails coming from domains other than "line.me".
- Pay attention to the email content
LINE will never suddenly ask users to verify their accounts again via email unless they have initiated the request themselves, such as for account transfers or when contacting LINE.
- Look for any unusual characters in the link address
The link in the email directing you to verify your account again might contain suspicious characters, such as those enclosed in square brackets or full-width alphabets. In such cases, do not tap on the link under any circumstances.
How a LINE account can be stolen:
Many unauthorized logins (thefts) of LINE accounts occur due to actions such as those mentioned below.
Your account can be stolen if you:
• Shared your phone number registered to LINE and verification code with a third party (including a friend or family member).
• Entered your phone number and verification code on a screen other than the one for transferring your LINE account.
Malicious acts of getting you to enter your LINE registered information (phone number, email address, password) or verification code into a fraudulent screen to steal your LINE account are called phishing. Phishing scams use various tactics, such as pretending to be one of your contacts or a company, or sending messages that create anxiety about your LINE account's security being compromised.
If you received a message like the ones above, do not open any links within the message or enter your email address and password on any login screen that appears after accessing a link. Even if you accidentally logged in, DO NOT enter the verification code under any circumstances.
What to do if you accidentally logged in on a phishing site:

1. Change your LINE password.
2. Change your password for other companies' services.
Important: If you’re using the same password you registered on LINE with other companies' services, immediately change those passwords, as it’s possible the scammers will attempt to log in to those accounts as well.

Requirements for using biometric logins:
To use biometric logins, the smartphone with biometrics registered to it needs to meet our system requirements.
To log in with biometrics on a sub device, you need:
• LINE version 12.18.0 or later.
• An iPad or a Windows or Mac device (to use with logins on LINE for iPad or LINE for PC).
Preparations for logging in with biometrics:
You can only follow the steps below on your main device (typically your smartphone).
To be able to log in to your LINE account on a sub device (except Chrome) using biometrics, you need to configure the following settings on your main device (typically your smartphone) beforehand.
iPhone
1. Register Face ID or Touch ID on your iPhone.2. From your device's Settings, tap LINE and turn ON Face ID or Touch ID.
Android
1. Register your biometric information to your smartphone.2. Allow biometrics to be used for logins in the LINE app.

After configuring your device's settings, configure the following settings on the LINE app. You can only use this feature on your main device (typically your smartphone).
