1-on-1 voice/video calls

Are all voice/video calls free?

Voice and video calls in LINE are free.

Calling or chatting with users on different mobile service carriers is also free. LINE will not charge you, even if you are calling a friend in a different country or using the service while you are traveling.

However, like all other apps, you will be charged by your mobile service carrier for the data that you use. Depending on your price plan, you may be charged each time you connect to LINE, so we recommend using a flat-rate data plan.

Note: With a flat-rate data plan, you will generally not be charged additional data fees when using a 3G, LTE, or Wi-Fi connection. For more details, check with your mobile service provider.

Allowing/blocking calls

To allow or block voice/video calls:
1. Go to the Home tab > Settings > Calls.

2. Turn Allow voice calls ON or OFF.

Making voice/video calls

You can make voice and video calls with your friends on LINE.

To make a call from your friend list:

1. Tap the friend you want to call.

2. Tap Voice call or Video call.

3. Tap Start.

To call a friend from a chat, use one of the methods below.

• At the top right of the chat, tap the phone icon > Voice call or Video call.

• Tap your friend's profile photo > Voice call or Video call > Start.

If you're using a 3G, 4G, or 5G network, you may be charged for the data used during a call. We recommend using a flat-rate data plan.

If call quality is low, try using a Wi-Fi connection.

Making high definition (HD) video calls

To make a high definition (HD) video call:

1. From the Home tab, tap Settings > Calls > Advanced call setting.

2. Turn ON HD on Wi-Fi only.

You can make HD video calls in group calls if:

• You've made a video call at least once before.

• Your device has the necessary hardware video codec (software that compresses and decompresses video).

To make HD group video calls, turn on HD group video call.

If you only want to make HD group video calls on a Wi-Fi connection, turn on HD group calls on Wi-Fi only under HD group video call.

Displaying calls in compact mode

Displaying voice and video calls in compact mode lets you use other apps and features at the same time.

To turn on compact voice call mode:

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Calls.

2. Turn ON Compact voice call mode and Allow display over other apps.

To turn on compact video call mode:

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Calls.

2. Turn ON Compact video call mode and Allow picture-in-picture.

When you tap a video call that's in compact mode, you can:

• Turn your camera and mic on/off.

• Switch to full screen mode.

• Turn the Allow picture-in-picture setting on/off from Settings at the top left.

• Close the screen by tapping "X" at the top right.

Note: If you want to join the call again after closing the screen, tap Join or the phone icon.

About call diagnostics

To test whether your microphone and camera are working properly:

1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Calls.

2. Tap Advanced call setting > Call diagnostics.

Note: If you don't see the Call diagnostics setting, update LINE to the latest version.

If you see an "x" next to anything, it means it's not working properly. Check whether you've given the necessary permissions by going to your device's Settings and tapping Apps > LINE > Permissions.

Note: The names in your settings and the order of these steps may differ depending on your device.

Tapping Test again will run another test. You can also test the volume of your microphone by tapping Mic test and recording and playing back your voice.

Important: All test calls are recorded, and their content is analyzed and used to improve call quality.
