A backup PIN lets you restore your chat history when you transfer your LINE
account.
By setting a backup PIN on your main device in
advance, you can transfer the last 14 days of your chat history even without backing it up, regardless of
the operating system of your new device.
Useful info
- If you want to transfer your entire chat history between devices with the same OS, you need to back it up and restore it on your new device.
- With Premium Backup (only available in Japan and Thailand), you can transfer your entire chat history between different OSes.
Setting a PIN
- Make sure your PIN is difficult to guess to prevent it from being used by someone else without your permission. The following are PIN examples that are easy to guess and should be avoided.
- Consecutive numbers (e.g. 123456)
- The same number used repetitively (e.g. 111111)
- Numbers based on personal information (e.g. your birthday)
- Tap the Home tab >
> Chat history backup
under Backup and transfer. - Tap Back up now.
- On the "Set your backup PIN" screen, enter a six-digit number.

Checking/resetting a backup PIN
- Tap the Home tab >
> Chat history backup
under Backup and transfer. - Tap Backup PIN.
Note: If you're asked to unlock the screen, use the unlock method configured on your device, such as your passcode or biometric identification (e.g. fingerprint, face). Do not use the password registered to your LINE account. - Check the PIN you currently have set.
- To change your PIN, tap Reset.
- Enter your new PIN, then tap Set new PIN.
