Account carry over

Email address & password

I want to carry over my account, but I don’t know my password toggle
Unfortunately there is no way to check your password that will be required to carry over your account. 

If you do not remember your password, please reset it by referring to the steps below:

1. Tap Log in.
2. Tap Forgot your password?
3. Enter the email address that was registered to your LINE account.
4. Tap OK.

I want to carry over my account, but I can’t use my registered email address toggle

You will not be able to carry over your account using your email address and password if you do not remember your password as well as your registered email address no longer being available when changing to a new device or reinstalling the app.

 

If your LINE account is linked with Facebook, you will be able to carry it over using your Facebook account.

I want to carry over my account, but I'm not receiving the password reset email toggle

If you are not receiving the password reset email, please check the following:

 

1. Is your registered email address entered correctly?

2. Did you enter an email address different from the one you registered?

3. Are you trying to send the password reset email repeatedly within a short period of time? Please wait approximately 24 hours between attempts.

4. Was the email sent to your spam, junk, or other folders?

5. Do you have spam filters in place? Please try disabling them.

6. Do you have settings in place to only receive emails from certain domains? If so, please add “line.me” to your list of accepted domains.

7. Does the email address you are using comply to RFC standards? The following are examples of email addresses that do not comply to RFC standards.

- Addresses with a dot (.) right before the @ symbol: abcd.@xxx.com

- Addresses with consecutive dots (.): ab..cd@xxx.com

- Addresses that begin with a hyphen (-): -abcd@xxx.com

 

If your LINE account is linked with Facebook, you will be able to carry it over using your Facebook account.

If you cannot recall your email address when changing to a new device or reinstalling the app, you will not be able to carry over your account using your email address.

 

If your LINE account is linked to a Facebook account, you can carry it over using your Facebook account.

Carrying over your account

Before changing devices toggle

 

In order to carry over your LINE account, you will need to have the following set up BEFORE changing devices. We recommend writing down your registered email address and password from steps 1 and 2 before moving on to step 3 and 4.

 

1. Have an email address registered to your LINE account.

To check your registered email address, please see this article.

 

2. Set a password when you registered your email address.

You will not be able to view your password on your device.

If you have forgotten your password, please see this article.

If your registered email address is no longer available and you have forgotten your password, please see this article.

 

3. Turn ON the Allow Account Transfer setting.

This step is not required if your registered phone number will not change.

4. Back up your chat history.

How do I back up my chats? (Android)

Before changing devices, it should be noted that you cannot transfer your chat history or Coin balance between different OSes (e.g. Android to iOS and vice versa).

 

After changing devices, please install the LINE app on your new device and select Log in to carry over your account.

Setup after changing devices toggle

 

 

Install the LINE app on your new device and carry over your account by following the steps below:


1. Start the LINE app and tap Log in.

2. Enter the email address and password you confirmed on your previous device and tap OK.

3. Enter your phone number, confirm the verification code sent via SMS or phone call and proceed to the next step.

4. Tap Continue.

Note: Steps 3 and 4 may not appear in some cases.


 

 

That is all there is to carry over your account.

Data that can be carried over toggle
The data you can and cannot carry over with your account are as follows.

Data that can be carried over:
- Your friends list (including groups)
- Notes and albums
- Profile settings (profile photo, display name, Status Message, ID)
- Timeline and Home posts
- Data saved in Keep (including images, videos, text, files)
- The right to use your LINE stickers and themes (including those received as gifts)
- Your purchase history and Coin and LINE point balance

Note
- Coins cannot be carried over between different OSes (e.g. from iOS to Android and vice versa).
- Registration information for linked apps, such as LINE Game titles and LINE PLAY.

Data that cannot be carried over: 
- Your chat history

Issues when carrying over your account

I wasn't able to carry over my account successfully toggle
If you were unable to successfully carry over your account, we may be able to restore your items by looking into your inquiry. Please contact us after installing the LINE app.

Items that can be carried over:
- The right to use your LINE stickers and themes (including those received as gifts)
- Your purchase history and Coin balance
Note: Coins cannot be carried over between different Oses, such as from iOS to Android or vice versa.

- Credit balance purchased from LINE STORE

Important: You will not be able to carry over data other than those mentioned above, such as friends, chat history, and groups.

I get an error when I enter my email address and password toggle
If you see error messages saying you have entered an invalid email address/password or you have not registered your email address with LINE or to enter your email address correctly, please check the following.

- Did you enter any extra spaces?
- Did you enter everything in half-width characters?
- Did you mistakenly enter similar characters? (E.g. 1= one l = lower case L and I = capital i, 0 = zero and O = capital o, 9 = nine and q = lower case Q.)
- Did you enter an email address that you are using for a different service?
- Did you enter in your password correctly?

If you are still getting errors after checking the above, please follow the steps below to reset your password.

1. Tap Log in > Forgot your password?
2. Enter the email addressed you registered on LINE.
3. Tap OK.

I got an error when I carried over my account toggle
If you see the following error messages, please wait 24-48 hours before trying again.

- Failed to register
- An error has occurred. Please try again later.

If any of the following error messages appears when you carry over your account, please refer to the Help article based on the relevant error you received.

When carrying over my account, I got an error when I selected Login with Facebook toggle
If you select Login with Facebook and the error message "Failed to connect with external services. Please try again later." appears, it is possible that the Facebook account you registered to LINE and the account information you logged in with are different. Please check the Facebook account you registered to LINE and try once again.

If you received the error messages despite not entering your Facebook login information, please logout of your Facebook account from your device's web browser and the Facebook app and try entering your login information once again.

I got an invalid phone number error toggle
If the error "Invalid phone number" appears, please wait 24-48 hours from the last time the error appeared before trying again.
