Send/receive chats

Starting 1-on-1 chats

There are two ways to start a chat.

• On your friend list, double-click the person you want to chat with.

• On your friend list, right-click the person you want to chat with then click Chat.

Sending files saved on your PC in chats

To send a file saved on your PC in a chat, use one of the following methods.

• Drag a file to a chat window and click Send.

• Click the send file icon at the bottom of the chat, select a file, and click Open.

Note:

- You can send image, video, document, and audio files.

- If the file type you are sending is not supported, you can send it as a zip file.

Sending screenshots

To send a screenshot:

1. From the main menu, click Chats.

2. Select the chat in which you want to send a screenshot.

3. Click the screenshot icon at the bottom of the text box.

4. Select what you want to take a screenshot of from either Chrome Tab, Window, or Entire Screen, then click Share.

5. Specify the desired area for the screenshot on the screen you selected, then click the screenshot icon.

To cancel taking a screenshot, press the Esc key.

Note: You cannot use the screenshot feature if the screenshot icon is disabled, such as when using an official account.

Changing the chat message Send key

To change the Send key for chat messages:

1. At the bottom of the main menu, click "..." > Settings.

2. Click Chats.

3. Under Chats, select your preferred setting next to Send key.

Inserting line breaks

You can insert line breaks using one of the methods below.

• If you've set the Enter key as your Send key, press Shift + Enter to insert a line break.

• If your Send key is Alt + Enter, press Enter to insert a line break.

Sharing chat room messages, photos, videos, and files to friends

To share a message, photo, video, or file to a friend:

1. Open a chat room.

2. Click Share under the photo, video, or file you want to share.

Note: To share messages, right-click the message you want to send, then click Share.

3. Select who you want to forward the content to, then click Share.

Reacting to chat messages

To react to a chat message:

1. Move your mouse cursor over the message you want to react to.

2. Click the reaction (smiley face) icon.

3. Select a reaction.

Click the reactions directly below a message to see the full list of who reacted to it.

To change/cancel your own reaction:

1. Move your mouse cursor over the message you reacted to.

2. Click the yellow reaction (smiley face) icon.

3. Click the same reaction that you chose before to cancel it, or change your reaction by clicking a different one.

Note: You cannot remove your friends' reactions.

About reactions

You can show how you feel about chat messages using special emoji reactions.

After someone sends a chat message, you can react to it for up to seven days.

About the chat mention feature

The mention feature lets you address messages to certain people in a group chat. Whenever you mention someone, they'll receive a notification.

To use the mention feature in a chat:

1. Open a group chat and enter the "@" symbol in the text box.

2. Select the name of the person you want to mention.

Note: You can also click someone's name next to their profile icon in a chat to mention them.

3. Enter and send your message.

Note: To mention more than one person, follow steps 1 and 2 for each person you want to mention.

You can also mention every member in a group by selecting @All.
