Logging in and out
We have added enhanced security to prevent unauthorized logins from the Chrome version of LINE.
If you see a verification code when you log in to the chorme version of LINE, you will need it to verify your identity on the smartphone version of LINE.
Please follow the steps below on your smartphone.
1. Start the Chrome version of LINE.
2. Enter your email address and password and click Log in.
3. A verification code will appear.
4. Start the smartphone version of LINE and enter the verification code that appears on the Chrome version of LINE.
You may be logged out automatically from LINE Chrome under the following circumstances:
1. When you log in to LINE Chrome from another device.
2. When you have changed the email address or password on the smartphone version LINE.
3. When you log out of your account on the smartphone version LINE.
4. When you have deleted your account on the smartphone version of LINE.
5. When a network error or a system failure has occurred.
6. When the app remains unused for a given amount of time.
To log out of the PC version of LINE, please follow the steps below:
1. Click the cogwheel icon.
Note: For the Chrome version of LINE, click the down arrow next to LINE on the top of the screen.
2. Click Log out.
If you are logged in to the PC version of LINE with an account you created on the smartphone app, you can also log out from the smartphone version by following the steps below:
1. Tap More > Settings.
2. Tap Account > Devices.
3. Tap Log out.
Logging in with an email address
To log in to the PC version of LINE using an email address, you must first register an email address on the device that you normally use LINE on.
See here for the steps to register an email address.
After registering your email address, please try the steps below.
Note: If you haven't already installed the PC version of LINE, you can download it here.
1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Click Login.
3. Enter your registered email address and password, then click Login below.
The steps to register an email address differ depending on how you signed up for LINE.
If you signed up for your account from LINE for PC:
You can register an email address by following the steps below.
1. Start LINE for PC.
2. Log in with your phone number.
3. Click "..." > Settings.
Note: With LINE for Chrome, click the down arrow next to LINE at the top of the screen.
4. Click Basic > Register Email.
5. Enter the email address you want to register and click Next.
6. Enter the verification code sent to your email address and click Next.
You won't be able to register an email address if you can't log in to LINE for PC with your phone number.
Note: If you signed up for your account on LINE for PC and then transferred it to a smartphone, see the section below.
If you signed up for your account from the smartphone version of LINE:
You cannot register an email address from LINE for PC. Please register an email address on the smartphone version of the app.
The steps to check your email address differ depending on how you signed up for LINE.
If you signed up for your account from LINE for PC:
You can check your email address by following the steps below.
1. Start LINE for PC.
2. Log in with your phone number.
3. Click "..." > Settings.
Note: With LINE for Chrome, click the down arrow next to LINE at the top of the screen.
4. Click Basic and your email address will appear next to "Email."
You won't be able to check your email address if you can't log in to LINE for PC with your phone number.
If you signed up for your account from the smartphone version of LINE:
You won't be able to check your email address from your PC if you can't log in to LINE for PC. In this case, please check your email address on the smartphone version of the app.
If you forgot your registered password, there is no way to check it. Please change your password on the smartphone version of LINE.
Note: After setting your new password, be sure to keep it safe so you don't forget it.
1. Start the smartphone version of LINE.
2. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Account.
3. Tap Password.
4. Enter a new password, then tap Change password.
Note: In some cases, you may need to enter your smartphone's unlock method.

Please check the following if you are not receiving the password reset email:
- Is your registered email address entered correctly?
- Did you enter an email address different from your registered one?
- Are you trying to send the password reset email repeatedly within a short period of time?
Note: You may not be able to receive the password reset email properly if you repeatedly sent a request for it. Please wait over 24 hours before sending a request again.
- Has the email been delivered to your spam, junk, or other folders?
- Do you have spam filters in place that block emails with URLs or that were sent from a PC? If so, please disable them.
- Do you have settings in place to only receive emails from certain domains? If so, please add “line.me” to your list of accepted domains.
- Does the email address you are using comply to RFC standards?
The following are examples of email addresses that do not comply to RFC standards:
- Addresses with a dot (.) right before the @ symbol: abcd.@xxx.com
- Addresses with consecutive dots (.): ab..cd@xxx.com
- Addresses that begin with a hyphen (-): -abcd@xxx.com
If you don't remember your password and can't use your registered email address, you will not be able to log in using that email address.
However, if you're using the smartphone version of LINE, you can log in to your account:
• By changing your registered email address.

Logging in with a QR code
If you haven't registered an email address with LINE, you can log in to LINE for Chrome by scanning a QR code.
To log in with a QR code:
1. Start LINE for Chrome.
2. Click QR code login.
3. Open the QR code reader in LINE on your smartphone.
4. Scan the QR code that appears on LINE for Chrome.
5. On your smartphone, tap Log in > OK.
In some cases, a screen may appear asking you to verify your identity. If you see this screen, you can log in after entering a verification code by following the steps in this Help article.
If you can't log in to LINE for Chrome with a QR code, try the troubleshooting tips below.

Logging in with a phone number
If you're using an account that you signed up for on the PC version of LINE, you can log in using your phone number with the following steps:
1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. From the login screen, click Phone Number Login.
3. Select your country code, then enter your phone number and password > click Login.
You will not be able to log in with your phone number if you signed up using the smartphone version of LINE. In this case, please log in using your email address or QR code.
If you forget your password after signing up from the PC version of LINE, you can log in to your account using your registered email address. However, if you did not register an email address, you will not be able to log in using either methods. In this case, please create a new account by signing up once again.
Login errors
If you see an error after entering your email address or password when logging in to LINE for Chrome, you may have entered the wrong information.
Make sure that your login information is correct by following the steps below, then try logging in again.
1. Enter your email address and password on a notepad app. Make sure that:
• There are no extra spaces.
• Everything was entered in half-width characters.
• The characters were entered correctly (letters are case sensitive).
2. Copy the email address and password you entered on the notepad app.
3. Start LINE for Chrome, paste your email address and password into their respective fields, then log in.
If you've tried the method above but are still experiencing an issue, it's possible that the login information you entered is different from the information registered to your LINE account.
You can check your email address if you registered one on the smartphone version of LINE. For the steps to do so, see the Help article for Android or iOS.
If you can't log in even though you've entered your email address correctly, you may have entered the wrong password. For the steps to change your password, see this Help article.
You cannot log in to LINE for Chrome if you are unable to unable to use LINE on your smartphone. (For details, see this Help article.)
If you can't log in to LINE for Chrome but can still use LINE on your smartphone, see the Help article below for the issue you're having.
If you're having issues with LINE, first check which version of LINE you can use on your PC here, then try the following troubleshooting tips.
• Uninstall LINE for Chrome and then reinstall it.
• Update the Chrome browser.
Note: If you're using Chrome OS, try updating the OS as well.
• Stop all applications running in the background and disable browser extensions.
• Delete your cache and browsing history.
If you see a phone number/password error when logging in to the PC version of LINE, you may have accidentally entered the wrong information.
Check the following to make sure there are no mistakes with your login information and try logging in once again.
Note: You can only log in using your phone number if you signed up for LINE on PC.
If you signed up for LINE on a smartphone, you can log in using your email address or QR code.
1. Enter your phone number and password in a notepad app.
Make sure:
- There are no extra spaces.
- Everything was entered in half-width characters.
- Characters were entered correctly (letters are case sensitive).
2. Copy the phone number and password you entered.
3. Start the PC version of LINE and paste your phone number and password into their respective fields, then log in.
If you’re still unable to log in with the steps above, it’s possible your password was entered incorrectly.

If you’re using the Windows or Mac version of LINE, click the icon next to the password field after entering your password to display it and make sure it’s correct.
