You can perform the following actions on messages and content that appear in your chats.

  • Remove messages and content from chats for you and the recipients with Unsend
  • Remove messages and content from only your screen with Delete

Unsend only removes content that you sent, but Delete removes content shown in your chat, including content sent by you or others.

Because these two features have different effects on recipients' screens and time limits, be sure to select the one that matches your intent.

The difference between unsending and deleting messages

You can unsend or delete content in chats, including messages, stickers, photos, and videos.

Unsend is a feature that lets you delete content you sent from chats for both you and the recipients.

Delete is a feature that removes content shown in your chats. It does not affect the screens of recipients. Since deleted content cannot be restored, you cannot unsend content after deleting it.

The main differences between Unsend and Delete are shown in the chart below.

  • Unsend messages up to seven days after sending them
  • Unsend unread messages without notifying the recipients

You can unsend OpenChat messages within 24 hours of sending them, regardless of whether you're an LYP Premium/LINE Premium member or not.

Important points for LYP Premium (Japan)/LINE Premium (Taiwan and Thailand) members about Premium unsend

  • This feature can be used with the latest version of LINE.
  • You will be unable to use the Unsend discreetly feature if the recipient hasn't upgraded to a version of LINE supporting the feature or if they've already read the message.
  • If the sender is using LINE on multiple devices, a notice may be sent depending on the LINE version on the device the message was unsent from.
  • Even if you unsend a message, the recipient may have already seen part of it in an OS push notification or message preview before it was unsent.
  • This feature cannot be used in any existing multi-person chats, official account chats, OpenChats, or chats that use the bot feature.
Note: Chats that use the bot feature are available only in Japan.
  • If you cancel your LYP Premium/LINE Premium membership, you will no longer be able to use the benefits.

Unsending/deleting messages

Unsending messages

Tap and hold or right-click the message you sent that you want to unsend > Unsend.

The message will be removed from both your and the recipient's chat, and a notice saying you unsent a message will appear in the chat.

LYP Premium (Japan)/LINE Premium (Taiwan and Thailand) members can select Unsend discreetly to remove messages that haven't been read without notifying recipients.

Deleting messages

Tap and hold or right-click the message you sent that you want to delete > Delete.

The message will only be removed from your chat, and will still appear on any recipient's screen.
