Account

What's the difference between an account and a User ID? toggle
A LINE account refers to the name, phone number, photo, and registered User ID etc.
Once an account is deleted, the registered information above will also be deleted.

A User ID is unique to every user and is used to identify the user within the LINE service.
When you register to LINE it will not be set. You will need to choose and register an ID yourself.

To set your LINE ID, go to More > Settings > Profile
*Once an ID is set, it cannot be changed. Please bear this in mind when setting your User ID.

Once you have set your LINE User ID, you can become friends with people who you have not exchanged phone numbers with by exchanging IDs.

If you do not want other users to search for your ID, please go into Profile and switch OFF the Public User ID setting.
*As stated in our terms, it is forbidden to share and exchange IDs on the internet for match-making purposes. We kindly ask to refrain from such actions.

Can I change my registered phone number? toggle
As the phone number is entered when the app is initially installed and cannot be changed after that, please uninstall and then reinstall LINE and go through the verification process again if you wish to register a new phone number.

Please note that your chat history will be deleted by doing the above.

After reinstalling LINE, please use LINE User Login to carry over your account.

My friends told me they see me under 2 accounts. toggle
If you created a new LINE account on a new device without deleting your account from the previous device, you will end up with multiple LINE accounts.

If you cannot use the previous device then you will not be able to delete your previous account.

Since your friends cannot delete your account, please tell your friends to block your previous account.

What should I do if I forgot my password? toggle
If you have forgotten your password, please reset it using the corresponding set of steps below.

Please note that the password reset email will be sent to your email address registered to LINE.

1. To change your email address or password
If you are trying to change your email address or password and cannot recall your password, please follow these steps to send yourself a new one.

a. Go to More > Settings > Accounts. This link only works on smartphones.
b. Tap Email Registration or Email Account Registration.
c. Tap Change Your Email or Change your registered email address.
d. Tap Forgot your password?
e. Tap OK.

See this page if you do not receive the password reset email.

2. To carry over your account
If you are performing LINE User Login after changing to a new device or reinstalling the app and cannot recall your password, please follow these steps to send yourself a password reset email.

a. Tap LINE User Login.
b. Tap Forgot your password?
c. Enter your registered email address.
d. Tap OK.

Deleting Your Account

What happens if I delete my LINE account? toggle
If you delete your account, all information such as your purchased stickers, registered phone number, friends and groups list, chat history, as well as any registrations with linked apps etc., will be deleted. If you have registered your email to LINE, this information and stored password will be deleted and you will no longer be able to access LINE via the PC version.

Once your account is deleted, you cannot restore this information even if you reinstall LINE again. 

If you have signed up for LINE Pay, you need to close your LINE Pay account before deleting your LINE account. Please see this article on how to do so.

How do I delete my LINE account? toggle
Your LINE account will not be deleted simply by uninstalling or deleting the app. To delete your account, please follow the steps below.

Caution!
1. Once you delete your account, all data such as your purchased stickers and Coins, phone number registered on LINE, friends and groups list, chat history, and registrations with other integrated apps (such as LINE GAME and LINE PLAY) will be deleted permanently.

2. If you have registered your email address to LINE, you will no longer be able to log in to the PC version of LINE using that email address.

3. Any data associated with your deleted account cannot be recovered or carried over even if you reinstall LINE.

4. If you have signed up for LINE Pay, you need to close your LINE Pay account before deleting your LINE account. Please see this article on how to do so.

Steps to delete your account:
iOS and Android
1. Tap More on the main menu bar.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Account.
4. Tap Delete Account or Delete My Account at the bottom of the page.

Windows Phone and BlackBerry
1. Tap “...”.
2. Tap Profile.
3. Tap Delete Account at the bottom of the page.

Firefox Phone
1. Tap Settings on the main menu.
2. Tap Profile.
3. Tap Delete account at the bottom of the page.

Can I restore an account that has been deleted? toggle
Once your account has been deleted, it cannot be restored since the purchased stickers, registered phone number, Friends/Groups lists, and chat history as well as any registrations with linked apps etc., will all be deleted.

However, it may be possible to use the same User ID as you did previously. Doing so will make it easier for you to be found by your friends.
If you wish to do so, please try the following:

1) Start LINE and tap More on the main menu bar
2) Tap Settings
3) Tap Profile
4) Tap User ID
5) Enter the ID you wish to use and tap Check
6) If the ID is available, tap Register

How do I delete my previous LINE account? toggle
If you are changing your device from a feature-phone to a smartphone, and you are still using the same email as the one used at registration, please follow these steps:

1. On the new device, access the screen for deleting your account.
2. Send a blank email and access the URL shown on the email received.
3. Your previous account will be deleted.

*If you are switching from a smartphone to another smartphone, and you have also changed your phone number, we regret to inform you that you cannot delete your old account.

Why is my account not deleted when I have already uninstalled the app? toggle
Uninstalling or deleting the LINE app will not delete your account.

To delete your account, please verify the same phone number using the same device as before, or carry over your previous account by performing LINE User Login, then deleting your account.

Registering Your Email

Why am I not getting my password reset email? toggle
If you are having problems receiving your password reset email, please check the following.

1. Is the registered email address correct?
2. Are you entering the same email address as the one you registered?
3. Is the password reset email in your spam inbox, or was it filtered to any other folders?
4. Do you have any junk mail filters active? If you do, please try again after temporarily disabling them.
5. Do you have domain filters active? If you do, please add “line.me” to the list of accepted domains.
6. Does your email address conform to existing RFC standards?
The following are examples that do not conform to RFC standards:
- Email addresses with a dot (.) before the @ sign: abcd.@xxx.com
- Email addresses with more than one dot in a row: ab..cd@xxx.com
- Email addresses starting with a hyphen: -abcd@xxx.com

7. Have you recently reset your password? Your password may not be reset properly if you make multiple password reset requests within a short period of time. Please wait 24 hours before requesting another password reset email.

If you are trying to carry over a LINE account linked with your Facebook account, you can do so using your Facebook credentials. Please see the Carrying over your account using Facebook section on the following help page.

What is email registration? toggle
After registering an email and password to your LINE account on your smartphone, you can carry over all your previous LINE account information when you change your mobile device or phone number by performing LINE User Login on the new device or phone number. You will also be able to use the PC version of LINE and LINE Store in regions where it is available.

Your friends list, purchased items, and game results are associated with your LINE account. To prevent any disappointment, please register an email address at your earliest convenience if you have not done so yet.

How do I register an email? toggle
You can register an email by doing the following. Please note that the steps may vary slightly depending on the device you are using.

1. Go to the More tab.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Accounts.
4. Tap Email Registration or Email Account Registration.
5. Enter your email address and password, and tap Email verification.
6. Enter the verification code received or tap the URL in the email.
7. Tap OK to finish email registration.

If your mailer app launches after tapping Email verification or OK:
1. Tap OK on the pop-up.
2. Select a mailer app that uses the email address you wish to register.
3. Send the email. If you are unable to send blank emails, please enter “LINE” into the body text.

How do I change my registered email? toggle
You can change your email by doing the following:
*Steps may vary slightly depending on the device you are using.

1) Open LINE's Settings
2) Tap Accounts
3) Tap Email Registration
4) Tap Change Your Email
5) Enter your registered email and password, then tap OK
6) Enter the new email and password you want to register and tap OK.

If you are having trouble registering, there is a possibility that there may be spaces in the email/password you entered, as some devices are programmed to input spaces automatically. Please ensure there aren’t any spaces!

Why am I not getting any confirmation at my registered email address? toggle
If you are not receiving a confirmation email, please check the following.

1. Is the registered email address correct?
2. Is the password reset email in your spam inbox or filtered to any other folders?
3. Do you have any email filters active? If you do, please try again after temporarily disabling them.
e.g., Do not receive emails from __________.
4. Do you have domain filters active? If you do, please include “naver.jp” to the list of accepted domains.

After checking the above, please restart your device and try registering an email address again.

Will my existing account be affected if I change my email address? toggle
No. Your account will not be affected by changing the email address registered to it. You are encouraged to keep your email address up-to-date in case you need to retrieve your account in the future when changing to a new device.

Keeping your email address updated also ensures that you can receive password reset emails if you forget your password.

I registered an invalid email address. What should I do? toggle
Please do the following to unregister your email address.

1. Tap More on the main menu bar (or "..." at the top right for Windows Phone users).
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Accounts.
4. Tap Change Your Email or Email Account Registration.
5. Tap Cancel Registration.
6. Enter your password and tap OK.
7. Tap Cancel Registration or OK.

Once you see the pop-up message informing you of the cancellation, your email registration has been cancelled.

If you have forgotten your password:
Tap Change Your Password and tap Forgot your password? below the OK button. This will send a temporary password to your inbox.

If you are unable to receive the temporary password, please refer to the following page for more help.

If you have forgotten your password and registered an invalid email address:
Please visit this help page inside the LINE app on your smartphone, fill in your details in the Problem Report Form, and send us an inquiry.

To get to the help page inside the LINE app, tap More on the main menu bar, followed by Settings, then Help. For Windows Phone users, tap "..." at the top right of the main screen, followed by Settings, then Help.

How do I change my password? toggle

2. Tap Email Registration or Email Account Registration.
3. Tap Change Your Password.
4. Enter your current password and tap OK.
5. Enter your new password twice and tap OK.

Profile

Can my display name be seen by other people? toggle
The display name you have set in your Profile will be displayed to the other user in the following cases:

1) When a notification pop-up is displayed on the other user’s screen
When you send a chat message or call someone, a pop-up is displayed and your profile display name will be shown.

2) When you are added to the other user’s Friends list and he/she does not know your phone number
If you become friends with a user who does not know your phone number using the ID Search function etc., your profile display name will be shown to the user.

Can my phone number, LINE ID, or email be seen by other people? toggle
Please rest assured that your registered phone number, User ID and email address will never be disclosed to the third parties, unless you do so yourself.

Only your display name, profile image and 'What’s Up?' messages on LINE are available to be seen by other users.

The What's Up Feature

What is the "What's Up?" feature? toggle
The "What's Up?" feature is your space to sum up your thoughts and feelings in a few words. Had any great tasting food or done any fun activities recently? Then this is the place to write those thoughts down! You can also let other LINE users know how you are via these speech balloons!

You can easily check what your friends' What's Up? messages by going to your Friends list.

*Depending on which device you are using, the What’s Up? feature may be displayed as Status Massage.

Can I delete what I have written in "What's Up?" toggle
“What’s Up?” is a space to write your own thoughts and feelings. Of course, as time goes by and situations change, so do your thoughts and feelings. At times like this you can go back and delete your previous messages in “What’s Up?”
*When you delete a previous message, and a map location or image becomes the most recent message; the next available text message or “emoji” will be displayed as your recent “What’s Up?” message.

You can set your LINE User ID by doing the following:

1. Tap More at the main menu bar
2. Tap Settings
3. Tap Profile
4. Enter the ID you wish to register and tap Check to see if it available.
5. If This user ID is available is shown tap Save

*Please note that once your LINE User ID is set, it cannot be changed.
*At step 4, if This User ID is unavailable is displayed, it means that the ID is already used by another user. Please try registering another one.

*As stated in our terms, it is forbidden to share and exchange IDs on the internet for match-making purposes. We kindly ask to refrain from such actions.

I can't choose the LINE User ID I want! toggle
If you see the message This User ID is unavailable, or if you search for an ID and another user is displayed, it means that the ID is already used by another user.

As you cannot register the same ID as anyone else, please try registering a different one!

1. Go to the More tab.

Your Privacy

I don't want people added to my Friends list automatically from my phone book. toggle
No problem! Simply switch OFF the Auto Add Friends option to stop users being added automatically from address book to your Friends list.
(It will not affect the users who are already added.)

1. Open LINE’s Settings
2. Tap Friends
3. Switch Auto Add Friends to the OFF position

*The steps may vary slightly depending on which device you are using.

I don't want to be added to the Friends lists of people who have my phone number. toggle
Sure thing! Simply switch OFF the Allow Others to Add option to stop you from being added automatically the Friends lists of those who have your phone number.
(It will not affect the users who have already added you.)

3. Switch Allow Others to Add to the OFF position
