Do I need to worry about other people being able to see my chats? toggle

We respect your privacy above all else, and your sent/received messages and other information are treated with the highest level of security. LINE has established strict internal rules to ensure that your messages are protected.

 

Nothing you send or receive can be viewed by LINE or any third parties not participating in a chat.

How to report chats toggle
You can report a user for sending spam messages from the chat room they are sent in.
Note: If you report someone, they won't be notified that you did so.

To report a chat:

1. From the chat screen, tap the V icon on the upper right of the screen.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Report.
4. Select your reason for reporting the chat, then tap Agree & send.

Unknown login notifications toggle
Whenever you log in to LINE, LINE STORE, or certain other LINE app related services, you'll receive a login notification. If you received a notification but don't remember logging in, we recommend doing the following to strengthen your security.

Disable logins from other devices
If you turn off the Allow login setting (which allows LINE to be accessed from other devices), your account will no longer be accessible from other versions of LINE, such as LINE for PC and iPad. Also, any other device logged in to your account will be automatically logged out once you've turned this setting off.

1. From the Friends or More tab, tap Settings > Account.
2. Turn Allow login OFF.

You can also move to the Allow login settings by tapping here on your smartphone.


Change your password (recommended)
If you received a notification but don't remember logging in, it's possible that a third party used your email address and password. In this case, please refer to the following information relevant to your situation:

• If you can use your LINE account:
A third party may have tried to log in to your LINE account fraudulently on a different device. Please change the password registered to your LINE account right away.

• If you cannot use your LINE account:
Your LINE account may have been stolen by a third party. If you log in with the smartphone you’ve been using your LINE account on within 24 hours of receiving the login notification chat, you'll be able to use your account again.

To log in: 
1. Start LINE and tap Log in or Existing user login.
2. Enter the email address and password registered to your account, or tap Log in with Facebook, then tap OK.
Note: Be sure to change your password after logging in.

Making LINE more efficient toggle
If you're using LINE regularly, cached data and chat data start to build up. This is one reason why the app may get bulkier or slower, so we recommend deleting such data from time to time.

Please use the methods below to delete built-up data.

To delete the LINE app's cache:
1. From the Friends or More tab, tap Settings > Chats.
2. Tap Delete data > Cached data.
3. Tap Delete selected data > Delete data.

To delete data from each chat:
1. On the Chats tab, tap the chat you want to delete data from.
2. Tap "V" at the top of the chat.
3. Tap Settings > Delete data.
4. Tap Delete selected data > Delete data.

Setting URL previews toggle
To show URL previews for links shared in chats:

1. Tap More > Settings > Chats.
2. Turn ON the URL previews setting.

Previews will appear for links shared in chats after this setting is turned on.

Announcing chat messages, polls, or events you've sent/received to members toggle
Please follow the steps below to "announce" (permanently display) messages, polls, or events you've sent/received/created at the top of a chat.

To announce messages:
1. Tap and hold the message you want to announce.
2. Tap Announce.

To announce polls:
1. Tap "+" at the bottom of the chat screen.
2. Tap Poll and then the poll you want to announce.
3. Tap Announce > OK.
Note: The Poll feature is available in group chats and multi-person chats.

To announce events:
1. Tap "V" at the top of the chat screen.
2. Tap Events and then the event you want to announce.
3. Tap Set as announcement > OK.

Setting chat wallpaper toggle
To set a chat room's wallpaper: 
1. From the Chats tab, select a chat room > tap “V” at the top.
2. Tap Settings > Chat wallpaper.
3. Choose one of the options to set a wallpaper.
