Notification basics

Refer to the steps below to configure your LINE notification settings.

Overall LINE notification settings:

iOS

You must configure notifications in both the LINE app and on your device to receive notifications without issue.

Configuring notifications in the LINE app

1. Tap the Home tab >

> Notifications.
Note: Tap here to go to Settings from your smartphone.
2. Turn ON Notifications.
3. Turn In-app sounds, In-app vibration, or any of the other settings ON or OFF as needed.

Configuring notifications on your device

1. Go to your device's Settings > Notifications.
2. Tap LINE in your list of apps.
3. Turn ON Allow Notifications and configure each of the other settings.

Android

1. Tap the Home tab >

> Notifications.
Note: Tap here to go to Settings from your smartphone.
2. Turn ON Notifications.
3. Tap Notification settings.
4. Turn ON All LINE notifications.
5. Tap Message notifications.
6. Turn ON Show notifications.
7. Turn each item ON or OFF by tapping it.

Chat notification settings:

Useful info

If the person you're chatting with is using the Silent messaging feature available in LINE Labs, you will not receive notifications when they send you chat messages.

Configuring notifications for each chat

1. Tap

at the top of a chat.
2. Tap Mute or Unmute.

Configuring mention notifications

To configure notifications for the mention feature, which lets you send messages to specific members or the whole group:
1. Tap the Home tab >

> Notifications.
Note: Tap here to go to Settings from your smartphone.
2. Turn ON Notifications.
3. Turn Mentions ON or OFF.

Useful info

If this setting is turned on, you'll be notified whenever you're mentioned in a chat, even if chat notifications are turned off.

Configuring notifications for posts in Notes

Notifications for Notes are sent to you as push notifications. You can also check them from bell icon

at the top right of the Home tab.

To configure notifications for reactions and comments to posts in Notes:
1. Tap menu icon

at the top of a chat > Settings.
2. Turn Note notifications ON or OFF.

Notification settings by service/feature:

Configuring LINE Pay notifications

1. Tap the Home tab >

> Notifications.
Note: Tap here to go to Settings from your smartphone.
2. Turn LINE Pay/LINE Pay notifications ON or OFF.

Configuring LINE authorized app notifications

1. Tap the Home tab >

> Notifications > Authorized apps.
Note: Tap here to go to the Authorized apps screen from your smartphone.
2. Select the app you want to configure notification settings for.
Note: If the app doesn't have an on/off toggle switch, the screen for the next step will be shown.
3. Turn Messages and Notifications ON or OFF.

You can make detailed adjustments to your settings, such as the appearance of the screen showing notifications, your notification sound, and muting notifications for just a certain time.

Basic notification settings

Changing your notification sound

iOS

1. In the LINE app, tap the Home tab >

> Notifications.
Note: Tap here to go to Settings from your smartphone.
2. Tap Sound.
3. Choose your preferred notification sound.

Android

1. In the LINE app, tap the Home tab >

> Notifications.
Note: Tap here to go to Settings from your smartphone.
2. At the top of the screen, turn Notifications and Notification settings ON.
3. Tap Add LINE notification sounds to device.
Note: Depending on the device, the Add LINE notification sounds to device option may not appear.
4. Tap Message notifications and turn Show notifications ON.
5. Tap Sound and select a notification sound.

Useful info

- You cannot change the notification sounds for individual group or 1-on-1 chats.
- The notification sound set for the device may play instead of the LINE notification sound.
- To delete the LINE notification sounds added to your device, tap Remove LINE notification sounds from device.

Temporarily muting notifications

1. In the LINE app, tap the Home tab >

> Notifications.
Note: Tap here to go to Settings from your smartphone.
2. Tap Mute, then select either Mute for one hour or Mute until 8 am.

To restart notifications, tap Mute, then select Unmute or Off.

Changing the display of pop-up notifications

You can set whether to show LINE message previews on your device's screen when you receive a notification.

iOS

To display message previews in pop-up notifications:
1. In the LINE app, tap the Home tab >

> Notifications.
Note: Tap here to go to Settings from your smartphone.
2. Turn Message previews ON or OFF.

To configure pop-up notification display settings:
1. Tap your device's Settings > Notifications.
2. Tap LINE in your list of apps.
3. Adjust the settings you want to change.

Useful info

The profile icons of users that send you messages will appear in pop-up notifications on iOS 15 or later. If you want to hide user profile icons in pop-up messages, turn Show profile icons OFF.

Android

To display message notifications on your device's lock screen, you need to turn lock screen preferences ON in your device's Settings, and then turn LINE notifications ON. For the detailed steps, please see below.
Note: These steps and labels may differ depending on your OS version and device.

To configure it on your device:
1. On your device, tap Settings.
2. Tap Security & location.
3. Under Device Security, tap Lock screen preferences.
4. Select any lock screen notification settings other than "Don't show notifications at all."

To configure it in LINE:
1. Tap the Home tab >

> Notifications.
Note: Tap here to go to Settings from your smartphone.
2. At the top of the screen, make sure that Notifications and Notification settings are turned ON.
3. Tap Message notifications.
4. Configure each of the following settings:
• Turn Show notifications ON.
• Tap Importance and select Medium or over.
• Tap Lock screen and select anything other than Don't show notifications at all.

This Help article will explain the messages sent from the LINE official accounts of companies you aren't friends with.

Useful info

If you received a message not from a company's official account but from someone you don't know, try the steps in Preventing chat messages from people you don't know and group invitations.

About messages from the official accounts of companies you didn't add as friends:
You may get notification messages from the official accounts of companies. These are messages for things like package delivery dates and when bills are due.

These notification messages let you receive helpful information without having to add the official accounts of individual companies as friends on LINE.

Useful info

The name of a company's official account has a gray, blue, or green icon next to it, and the type can be distinguished by the icon color.
Note: The link above is only available in Japanese.

To make sure that a notification message is from an official account, check to make sure it has an icon with one of these colors.

How notification messages work:
Companies request to send messages on LINE based on their customers' phone numbers that they have on file. A notification message will be sent if we've confirmed at the time of sending that:
• The phone number the company has on file matches your phone number registered to LINE.
• Your LINE account allows notification messages.
• Your LINE account has not blocked the company's official account.

For security reasons, we use a special method to change (encrypt) the phone numbers sent to us by companies. We only use the relevant information to send messages to the correct user, and delete the information immediately after finishing confirmation.

Only notification messages that we have determined to be valid and appropriate are sent out to users, and messages will not be sent for the purpose of advertising.

Note: You may need to verify your identity with your phone number via an official account that we operate to have these notification messages sent to you.

About messages to verify your phone number:
The message to verify your phone number is for verifying your phone number regularly (every 180 days) to confirm that the phone number registered to your LINE account is the same as your currently contracted phone number.
Note: Once verified, the message won't be sent again for 180 days.

The phone number shown in the phone number verification message is shown in the following format: (international calling prefix)(country code)(phone number, minus any 0 at the beginning).
Note: To protect your privacy, only part of your phone number is shown (e.g. a Japanese phone number of “070-0000-0000” would be shown as “+817****00000”).

If your phone number registered to LINE is different from your currently contracted phone number:
• You'll become unable to receive helpful notification messages (e.g. package delivery dates, bills that are due) from the official accounts of companies.
• You may suddenly become unable to use LINE.

Checking/changing your phone number

If you don't receive the verification code for verifying your phone number, try selecting Resend code or Call me instead.

Note: Your phone number will be successfully verified when you receive a message from LINE saying, "New LINE notification message."

Turning off notification messages:
If you don't want to receive notification messages, do either of the following.

• Turn OFF notification messages.
• Block the relevant LINE official account.
Note: The “LINE” official account is our system account and cannot be blocked.

You can only use this feature on your main device (typically your smartphone).

Be advised

Any links in steps directing to LINE in-app screens can only be opened on your main device.

To turn notification messages on and off:
1. Open LINE on the main device your account is registered to.

2. Tap the Home tab > Settings

Note: Tap here to go to Settings .
3. Tap Privacy.
4. Tap Provide usage data.
Note: If you're using an Android device and don't see Provide usage data, try restarting your device after changing its language settings (e.g. from the current language to Japanese and back).
5. Tap LINE notification messages.
6. Turn Allow LINE notification messages ON or OFF.

Turning Allow LINE notification messages off will make it so you are unable to receive notification messages from any company's official account.

If you don't want to get notification messages from the official account of a certain company, please block that company's official account.

By tapping bell icon

at the top of the Home tab, you can see all of the updates to your Home.

You can configure the types of notifications you receive by tapping Settings

at the top of the Notifications screen.

In Notifications, you can check the following information.

Friends
• Friends you've added/friends who have added you
• New friend recommendations

Favorite friends
• Changed profile information
Note: To add someone to your Favorites, tap star icon

on their profile screen.

Groups
• Group invites
• Groups you're in that new members have joined

Notes
• Likes and comments on notes and comments that you posted
• Notes and comments that you were mentioned in
