Logging in and out

Logging in to the PC or Windows 8 version of LINE toggle
There are three ways to log in to the PC or Windows 8 version of LINE. 

Please reference the following Help article that corresponds to your situation:


Note: 
- Logging in with a QR code is not available on the Windows 8 version of LINE.
- You can only log in with a phone number if you signed up from the PC version of LINE.

How do I log out of LINE? toggle
On the PC version:
There are two ways to log out of LINE:
1. Click on the Settings icon at the top of the screen and select Log Out.
2. Right-click the LINE icon on the right hand side of the task bar, and select Log Out from the menu window.

On the Windows 8 version:
Click on your profile name at the top-right of the main screen to access your profile, then select Log Out at the bottom of the screen.

LINE has just logged me out. Why is this? toggle
You may be logged out automatically from the PC or Windows 8 versions of LINE under the following circumstances:

1. If you log into the PC or Windows 8 version of LINE from another device.
2. If you change your email address or password from the smartphone version of LINE.
3. If you log out using the Device Manager on the smartphone version of LINE.
4. If you delete your account using the smartphone version of LINE.
5. If a network error or a system failure occurs.
6. If the app remains unused for a given amount of time.

I see a verification code to verify my identity toggle
We have added enhanced security to prevent unauthorized logins from the PC version of LINE.

If you see a verification code when you log in to the PC version of LINE, you will need it to verify your identity on the smartphone version of LINE.

Please follow the steps below on your smartphone.

1. Star the PC version of LINE.
2. Enter your email address and password and click Login.
3. A 4 digit verification code will appear.
4. Start the smartphone version of LINE and enter the verification code that appears on the PC version of LINE.

Logging in with an email address

What should I do if I forgot my password? toggle
If you are using the PC version of LINE, you can reset your password by following the steps below:

1. At the bottom of the login screen, click Reset Password?
2. Enter your registered email address and click OK.

If you registered your email address on the smartphone version of LINE, you can also reset your password from the app. 

To reset your password, please refer to the following Help article relevant to your device:

Do I have to enter my ID and password every time? toggle
No you don’t!

On the PC version:
Check the "Log me in automatically" option on the login screen, or go to Settings > Basic tab and check the "Log me in automatically" option, to stay logged in.

On the Windows 8 version:
Check the Auto Login option at the Login screen, or go to Settings > Basic tab and check the Auto Login option, to stay logged in.

I'm not receiving the password reset email toggle
Please check the following if you are not receiving the password reset email:

- Is your registered email address entered correctly?
- Did you enter an email address different from your registered one?
- Are you trying to send the password reset email repeatedly within a short period of time?

Note: You may not be able to receive the password reset email properly if you repeatedly sent a request for it. Please wait over 24 hours before sending a request again.

- Has the email been delivered to your spam, junk, or other folders?
- Do you have spam filters in place that block emails with URLs or that were sent from a PC? If so, please disable them.
- Do you have settings in place to only receive emails from certain domains? If so, please add “line.me” to your list of accepted domains.

- Does the email address you are using comply to RFC standards? 

The following are examples of email addresses that do not comply to RFC standards:

- Addresses with a dot (.) right before the @ symbol: abcd.@xxx.com
- Addresses with consecutive dots (.): ab..cd@xxx.com
- Addresses that begin with a hyphen (-): -abcd@xxx.com

How can I log into my account if my email address is not available? toggle
If you are unable to use your email address and password, you will not be able to log in using an email address. However, if you are using the the smartphone version of LINE, you can log in to your account using either of the following methods:

In order to log in using an email address, you need to register one beforehand. For details on how to register an email address, please refer to the following Help article:


To log in with an email address, please follow the steps below:

1. Download the PC version of line.

2. Start the PC or Windows 8 version of LINE.
3. Click Email Login.
4. Enter your registered email address and password and click Login.

How to register an email address toggle
If you signed up for LINE from your smartphone and wish to use the PC or Windows 8 version of LINE, you will need to register an email address beforehand.

If you signed up for LINE using the PC version, we recommend registering an email address as a more reliable method of logging in. 

For users who signed up for LINE using a smartphone, please refer to the following Help article that is relevant to your device to register an email address:

If you did not register an email address when you signed up for LINE on the PC version, please do so by following the steps below:

1. Click the settings icon > Settings.
2. Click the Basic tab on the left side of the screen > Register Email.
3. Enter the email address you wish to register and click Next.
4. Enter the verification code sent to your email address and click Next.

I forgot my registered email address toggle
If you are using the PC version of LINE, you can check your registered email address by referring to the following:

1. Click the settings icon > Settings.
2. Check the email address that appears next to Email in the Basic tab.

If you registered an email address with the smartphone version of LINE, you can check or change your email address from the app.

Logging in with a QR code

How do I log in with a QR code? toggle
If you have not registered an email address with LINE, you can log in to the PC version of LINE by scanning a QR code.

To log in to the PC version of LINE with a QR code, please follow the steps below.

1. Start the PC version of LINE.
2. Click QR Code Login.
3. On the smartphone version of LINE, go to More > Add Friends > QR Code.
4. Scan the QR code that appears on the PC version of LINE.
5. Tap Login.

You will be logged in once the "Login Successful!" message appears.

It says that my QR Code is invalid. What shall I do? toggle
If your QR code is no longer valid, click the arrow icon to generate a new one to log in.

Logging in with a phone number

Can I log in with my phone number if I forgot my password? toggle
If you registered an email address after making a new account on the PC version of LINE, you can reset your password. 

Please refer to the following Help article to reset your password:


If you did not register an email address to your account, you will not be able to reset your password. In this case, please make a new account.

Logging in with a phone number toggle
To log in with a phone number, please follow the steps below:

1. Start the PC version of LINE and click Phone Number Login.
2. Select your country, enter your phone number and password, and click Login.

Note: You can log in with a phone number only if you signed up with the PC version of LINE. If you signed up using a smartphone, please register an email address and use it to log in or use a QR code.

Login errors

I get an error when I enter my email address or password toggle
If you encounter an error after entering your email address or password when you log in to the PC or Windows 8 version of LINE, it is possible you may have accidentally entered the wrong information.

Please follow the steps below to make sure there are no mistakes with your login information and try logging in once again.

1. Enter your email address and password in a notepad app and ensure the following:
- Make sure there are no extra spaces.
- Enter your password in half-width characters.
- As the letters are case sensitive, make sure you entered them correctly.

2. Copy the email address and password you entered in a notepad app.
3. Start the PC version of LINE and paste your email address and password into their respective fields, then log in.

If you are unable to resolve the issue with the method above, it is possible the login information you entered and the information registered with your LINE account may be different.

If you registered an email address with the smartphone version of LINE, you can check your registered email address by referring to the following Help article relevant to your device.

Note: If you signed up for LINE using the PC version, you cannot check or change your email address before logging in. 

If you are still unable to log in with the correct email address, it is possible you may have accidentally entered the wrong password. In this case, please refer to the following Help article to change your password:

Logging in and performance issues toggle
If you are experiencing logging in or performance issues, first check which version of LINE you can use on your PC from here, then try the following. 

Windows, Windows 8, and Mac version of LINE
- Uninstall the PC version of LINE and then reinstall it
- Restart your PC
-Disable any security software or firewalls you have in place temporarily, or allow the LINE application to be used.
-Disable any resident software or customization software such as WindowsBlinds, etc.

Windows 10 version of LINE
- Update the PC version of LINE
- Restart your PC
-Disable any security software or firewalls you have in place temporarily, or allow the LINE application to be used.
-Disable any resident software or customization software such as WindowsBlinds, etc.

Chrome version of LINE
- Uninstall the Chrome version of LINE and then reinstall it
- Update the Chrome browser. If you are using Chrome OS, please also try updating the OS.
- Disable background transmitting apps and extensions
- Clear data such as the cache and browser history

I got an error regarding the Allow Login setting toggle
If you encounter an error related to the Allow Login setting when logging in to the PC version of LINE, please turn this setting ON from your smartphone.

1. Go to More > tap Settings > Account.
2. Turn the Allow Login setting ON.

I see an error that says I am unable to log in due to network issues toggle
If you see an error that says "Unable to login due to network issues." when logging in to the PC version of LINE, it is possible you do not have a stable network connection.

If you see an error that says "We are currently unable to log you in." when logging in to the PC version of LINE, it is possible you do not have a stable network connection.
