Hiding/blocking/deleting LINE accounts you're friends with

You can hide, block, or delete accounts that you don't want to appear in your friend list on LINE. While these are all features to make it so that the accounts don't appear in your friend list, their behaviors and restrictions after being applied are different.


In particular, deleting someone's account cannot be undone and your past chat history with them will also be deleted. Please choose the method that best suits your needs after checking the differences.

Differences between hiding, blocking, and deleting accounts

Hiding an account

  • The other user's display name will no longer appear in your friend list and they will be moved to your Hidden accounts list.
  • You'll still receive messages and calls from them and your message and call history with them will appear in your chat list.
  • You can have them reappear in your friend list by unhiding them from your Hidden accounts list.
  • If you delete them from your Hidden accounts list, you cannot undo it.
  • If you want to put someone back in your friend list after deleting them, you will need to add them as a friend again.

Blocking an account

  • The other user's display name will no longer appear in your friend list and they will be moved to your Blocked accounts list.
  • You won't receive messages or calls from them.
  • You can have them reappear in your friend list by unblocking them from the Blocked accounts list.
  • If you delete them from your Blocked accounts list, you cannot undo it.
  • If you want to put someone back in your friend list after deleting them, you will need to add them as a friend again.

Deleting an account directly from your friend list

  • The other user's display name will no longer appear in your friend list.
  • You'll still receive messages and calls from them and your message and call history with them will appear in your chat list.
  • If you want to put someone back in your friend list after deleting them, you will need to add them as a friend again.

Users in Japan
  1. In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Chats tab > the Friends tab at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap and hold the name of the account that you want to block.
  3. Tap Block.
Users outside Japan
  1. In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab > Friends.
  2. Tap and hold the name of the account that you want to block.
  3. Tap Block.

Unblocking accounts

It may take some time for the changes to be applied.

  1. In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab > Settings.
  2. Tap Friends > Blocked accounts.
  3. Tap the account you want to unblock or Edit.
  4. Tap Unblock.

  1. In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Chats tab > the Friends tab at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap and hold the name of the account that you want to hide.
  3. Tap Hide or Hide from list.
Users outside Japan
  1. In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab > Friends.
  2. Tap and hold the name of the account that you want to hide.
  3. Tap Hide or Hide from list.

Unhiding accounts

It may take some time for the changes to be applied.

  1. In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab > Settings.
  2. Tap Friends > Hidden accounts.
  3. Tap Edit next to the account you want to unhide.
  4. Tap Unhide.

Deleting accounts

There are ways to delete accounts from your Hidden/Blocked accounts lists or directly from your friend list. For the differences, see Differences between hiding/blocking/deleting accounts.


Deleting accounts from your Hidden/Blocked accounts lists

  1. In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab > Settings.
  2. Tap Friends.
  3. Tap Hidden accounts or Blocked accounts.
  4. Tap the account you want to delete or Edit.
  5. Tap Delete.

Deleting accounts directly from your friend list

You can use this feature on devices aside from LINE for PC sub devices.

Users in Japan
  1. In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Chats tab > the Friends tab at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap and hold the account you want to delete.
  3. Tap Delete.
Users outside Japan
  1. In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab > Friends.
  2. Tap and hold the account you want to delete.
  3. Tap Delete.
