Chat history disappeared toggle
Your chat history is saved in the app on your device. For this reason, you cannot carry over or restore your chat history in the following cases.

- If you deleted your chat history
- If you uninstalled then reinstalled your LINE app (including restoring the app from backup)
- If you changed to a new device

Problems sending or receiving messages toggle
If you are having problems sending or receiving messages, please try the following steps.

1. Update your LINE app from the URL below.
http://line.me/update
2. Restart your device.
3. Go back to the list of chats, then open the chat you are having problems with again.

Please note that sometimes it may take a while for a chat message to show up after you receive the notification.

App crashes toggle
If the app crashes when sending messages, there may not be enough memory on your device. Please try the following steps.

1. Close all running apps
2. Restart LINE
3. Restart your device

If the app crashes only in specific chats, deleting the chat history for those chats may help. Please back up your chat history according to the steps in the article below.

Backing Up and Restoring Chats

If the app crashes every time you open a specific chat, the only way to solve the issue is to delete the chat history. Please back up chats with lots of messages regularly.

Editing and deleting posts toggle
To edit or delete a note, please follow the steps below.

1. Tap the note you wish to edit or delete.
2. Tap the three dots at the top right.
3. Select Edit or Delete, then tap OK.

Please note you can only edit and delete notes you created yourself. Currently, only text can be edited.

To create a new album, please follow the steps below.

Groups
1. From the friends list, tap the group you wish to create the album in.
2. Tap Albums from the pop-up.
3. Tap Make a new Album or the + icon at the bottom right.
4.Tap the check marks on the photos you wish to add to the album, then tap Select > Create Album.

1-on-1 Chats
1. Open the chat with the friend you want to share the album with.
2. Swipe the chat screen twice to the right.
3. Tap Make a new Album or the + icon at the bottom right.
4.Tap the check marks on the photos you wish to add to the album, then tap Select > Create Album.

Possibility of messages being viewed by third parties toggle
As messages sent in chats are covered by the law governing privacy of communications, no LINE employee or third party, besides the chat participants themselves, will be able to view them. LINE treats the chat history and other information of its users as important personal information, and handles them with the maximum level of security possible.

Problems with images, videos, and audio messages toggle
It may take some times to send, receive, and display images, videos, and audio messages. Images are only stored on our servers for a certain period of time, after which they can no longer be received. We are unable to provide details about how long images are stored.

By tapping the thumbnail received in a chat, you can save the image in your LINE app. To save it in the default gallery app on your device, please tap Save after opening the image.

Images saved in the LINE app will become unavailable if you delete the app's cache using a cache clearing app.

For problems with images, videos, and audio messages, please try the following.

1. Close all running apps.
2. Restart your device.
3. Update your LINE app from the URL below.

4. Update your OS.
5. Delete any unneeded apps and data on your device.

Chat History

Chat history disappeared toggle
Your chat history is saved in the app on your device. For this reason, you cannot carry over or restore your chat history in the following cases.

1. Pull the list of chats down or tap the search icon at the top right.
2. Enter the keywords you wish to search for in the "Official accounts, Friend, Chats" box.

Backing up chats toggle
To back up (save) your chat history, please follow the steps below.

1. Select the chat you wish to save.
3. Tap the V icon at the top right of the screen.
4. Tap Settings.
5. Tap Export Chat History.

Please note that images will not be saved.

If you do not receive an email with your backup file, please check your junk or spam folder. If you have more than one email address, please try sending the file to another email address.

Groups chats

Creating groups toggle
To create a group: 
1. On the Chats tab, tap the speech bubble icon > Group.
2. Select the friends you want to invite to the group and tap Next.
3. Enter a group name and tap Create.
Note: If the Members join automatically setting is turned off, the friends you invite won't become group members until they select Join in their invitation.

Deleting a group or group members toggle
A group is automatically deleted when all members leave. If there are multiple members in the group, you will need to remove all of them by following the steps below before the group can be deleted.

1. Tap the friends icon.
2. Tap the group you want to delete.
3. Tap the members icon on the pop-up.
4. Swipe left on the names of the members.
5. Tap Delete.

Once you are the only member left, tap Leave to leave the group and delete it.

Inviting new friends to a group toggle
1. Tap to open the group chat you want to invite new friends to.
2. Tap the V icon on the top right of the chat room.
3. Tap Invite.

You can also invite members from the Invite Friends button on the bottom of the group members' list.

Leaving a group toggle

Your posts, albums, and photos will not be deleted even if you leave a group. If there is any data you wish to delete, please do so before leaving the group.

 

When a group member deletes their account or leaves the group, a message saying “(friend name) left the group.” will appear.

 

To leave a group

1. From your friends list, swipe left on the group you want to leave.

2. Tap Leave.

 

Once all members of a group leave, all data posted will be deleted. In this case, the data cannot be restored.

Creating groups from multi-person chats toggle
To create a group from a multi-person chat: 
1. Open a multi-person chat.
2. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Other settings.
3. Tap Create group.
4. Select the friends you want to add and tap Next.
5. Enter a name, set a profile icon, and then tap Create.
Note: Messages from the multi-person chat will not be transferred to the group. To view those past messages, please check the multi-person chat.

Notes and Albums

Creating an album toggle

To create a new album, please follow the steps below.

 

Groups

1. From the friends list, tap the group you wish to create the album in.

2. Tap Albums from the pop-up.

3. Tap Make a new Album or the + icon at the bottom right.

4.Tap the check marks on the photos you wish to add to the album, then tap Select > Create Album.

 

1-on-1 Chats

1. Open the chat with the friend you want to share the album with.

2. Swipe the chat screen twice to the left.

3. Tap Make a new Album or the + icon at the bottom right.

4.Tap the check marks on the photos you wish to add to the album, then tap Select > Create Album.

To upload photos to an album, please follow the steps below.

1. Tap the relevant album.
2. Tap the + icon at the bottom right.
3. Tap the check marks on the photos you wish to upload, then tap Select > Add Photos.

Renaming an album toggle
To rename an album: 
1. Select the album you want to rename.
Note: If a name wasn't set, the date the album was created will appear.
2. Tap the menu icon at the top right.
3. Tap Rename album.
4. Enter an album name and tap Rename.

The same album name cannot be used more than once, and must be between 1 and 50 characters in length.

Saving and deleting photos from albums toggle
To save or delete photos from an album, please follow the steps below.

1. Tap the relevant album.
2. Tap the photo you wish to save or delete.
3. Tap Save to save the photo in your device, or from the menu icon of the bottom left tap Delete Photo to delete the photo.

Any member of a group can save and delete photos from albums. Please note that deleted photos cannot be restored.

How many albums can I create? toggle
Up to 100 albums can be created per chat.

Additionally, a maximum of 1,000 photos can be added to each album (up to 300 photos at once).
Note: You can select up to 20 photos at a time when saving photos in a chat to an album by tapping and holding them.

Creating Notes toggle
To create a note to share with your friends, please follow the steps below.

Groups
1. From the friends list, tap the group you wish to create the note in.
2. Tap Notes from the pop-up.
3. Tap New Note or the pencil icon on the bottom right of the screen.
4. Enter the text and tap Done at the top right of the screen.

1-on-1 Chats
1. Open the chat with the friend you wish to share the note with.
2. Swipe the chat screen to the left.
3. Tap New Note or the pencil icon at the bottom right.
4. Enter the text and tap Done at the top right of the screen.

You can attach the following contents to each note. 
- Up to a total of 20 stickers, images, and videos.
- One URL and location respectively. 
Only one of sound and animated stickers can be attached. These stickers cannot be attached along with normal stickers.

When your friend or group member Likes or comments on your note, you will be notified by push notifications and Notifications on the menu of your Timeline.

If you do not want to receive the notifications, please follow the steps below.

Groups
1. From the friends list, tap the relevant group.
2. From the pop-up screen, tap Chat, Notes or Albums.
3. Tap the V icon at the top right > Settings.
4. Turn the Notes Notifications OFF.

1-on-1 Chats
1. Open the chat, notes or albums with the relevant friend.
2. Tap the V icon > Settings.
3. Turn the Notes Notifications OFF.

Posts and albums on the timeline toggle
Posts and albums displayed on your Timeline are only visible to the group or friend they are shared with. Non-members of the group or chat that the post or album is shared in will not be able to see it.

Newly added group members will be able to see all posts and albums added to the group before they joined, but not previous chat messages.

Stickers and Sticons (emoji)

Suggest feature for stickers and emoji toggle
The suggest feature lets you quickly choose emoji and stickers that match the text you enter.
Note: The suggest feature does not support all stickers/emoji.

To change the suggest feature settings:
1. Tap Settings (or Friends > Settings) > Chats.
2. Tap Display suggestions.
3. Turn the setting for Display suggestions ON or OFF.

Hiding and deleting

I accidentally deleted a message instead of unsending it toggle
There is no way to unsend anything (e.g. text messages, photos) that has already been deleted from a chat.

Please also understand that LINE is unable to recover, delete, or unsend messages on your behalf.

Deleting chats toggle
To delete a chat:
1. Tap Chats > Edit.
2. Choose the chat room you want to delete.
3. Tap Delete > Delete.

Note: 
- Chats cannot be restored after you delete them.
You cannot delete the Keep Memo chat.

Displaying hidden chats toggle
To display a hidden chat: 
1. Tap the Home tab > the relevant group or friend under Groups or Friends.
2. Tap Chat from the pop-up.

You won't be able to display a chat with someone if they don't appear in your friend list for one of the following reasons:
• You haven't added them as a friend on LINE.
• You deleted them from your friend list.
• They deleted their LINE account.

Unsending messages toggle
You can unsend a message within 24 hours of sending it. This removes the message so that it can no longer be seen by anyone in the chat where it was sent, even after it has been read. To unsend a message, just tap and hold it, then select Unsend.

Important:
- Everyone will still be able to see a notice that shows you removed a message.
- There is no way to unsend anything (e.g. text messages, photos) that has already been deleted from a chat.
- We will not be able to recover or unsend anything deleted from a chat room.

You can unsend text messages, stickers, photos, videos, voice messages, songs shared from LINE MUSIC, URLs, contact information, location information, files, and call histories.

Deleting chat messages toggle
You can delete messages in chats so they don't appear on your device anytime.
Important: Deleting messages by following the steps below will only delete them on your device, and they will still be visible to any other users in the chat room.

To delete a message:
1. Tap and hold the message you want to delete.
2. Tap Delete or Delete messages.
3. Tap Delete and confirm by tapping Delete once again.

You can unsend messages so that other users can no longer see them if 24 hours haven't passed since they were sent (regardless of whether they have been read or not). For more information about unsending messages, see this Help article.

Will other people know if I delete a message or chat room? toggle
No one will be notified if you delete a message or chat room.

However, if a message is unsent, everyone will be able to see a notice saying “~ unsent a message” in the chat room.

Blocking LINE GAME messages toggle
To block messages from LINE GAME apps, please follow the steps below.

1. Tap the settings icon > Notifications > Authorized Apps.
2. Tap the app you do not want to receive notifications for.
3. Turn OFF Receive Messages or Receive Notifications.

You will no longer receive messages from the app by turning OFF Receive Messages; however you will still receive gifts awarded to you from friends. 

By turning OFF Receive Notification, you will still receive LINE chat messages; however you will not receive notifications for them.

Hiding chats toggle
To hide a chat: 
1. Tap the Chats tab.
2. Tap the menu icon at the top right or Edit at the top left of the screen.
3. On the Edit chats screen, select the chats you want to hide and tap Hide.

To hide chats individually, swipe left on the chat you want to hide and then tap Hide > Hide.

Preventing messages from strangers toggle
To avoid messages from strangers, please refer to the measures below.

To reject users besides your friends from messaging you
1. Tap the settings icon > Privacy.
2. Turn ON Filter Messages.

If you receive messages from strangers on LINE, please block them by following the steps below.

1. Open the chat sent by the user and tap the V icon at the top right.
2. Tap Block.

Keep

About collections toggle
Collections let you organize the items you've saved in Keep any way you like.

To add an item to a collection, use one of the methods below.

From Keep:
1. Choose the item you want to add and tap "+".
2. Select a collection.

From a chat:
1. Tap and hold the item you want to save > Keep.
2. Tap Save.
3. Tap Collection to the right of the "Saved in Keep" message.

To save items in a new collection, tap "+" on the "Add to collection" screen and create a new collection.

Note:
- You can create up to 100 collections.
- There is no limit to the number of items that can be saved in each collection.
- Rest assured that deleting a collection will not delete the items in it.
- Your Favorites collection cannot be deleted or renamed.

Pinning items in Keep toggle
You can pin items so they always appear at the top of a list in Keep.

To pin an item, use either of the following methods:
• Tap the menu icon at the top right of the item you want to pin > Pin.
• Tap the item you want to pin > the white pin icon at the top of the screen.

To unpin an item, use either of the following methods:
• Tap the menu icon at the top right of the item you want to unpin > Unpin.
• Tap the item you want to unpin > the black pin icon at the top of the screen.

Keep Memo toggle
Keep Memo is your own personal chat that only you can see.
Note: If you don't see the Keep Memo chat, update LINE to the latest version here.

Text, links, images, photos, videos, and other files sent in the Keep Memo chat will also be sent to Keep, where you can organize and manage them.
Note:
- Just sending content in your Keep Memo chat will not save it in Keep.
- For information on saving items from Keep Memo in Keep, see this Help article.

The Keep Memo chat cannot be renamed and its profile picture cannot be changed. Also, it does not have features like Note and Albums, and it cannot be deleted or duplicated.

1. Tap and hold the item you want to save > Keep.
2. Tap Save.
Note: You can also save multiple items at the same time.

Saving an item from the Keep screen:
1. From the Keep Memo chat, tap the Keep icon at the top of the screen.
2. Tap the item you want to save.
3. Tap the options icon at the top of the screen > Save in Keep
Note: The "Save in Keep" option won't appear for items already saved in Keep.

If you pin an item or edit text in Keep, that content will be saved in Keep automatically. For more information about pinning items in Keep, see this Help article.

Adding content to Keep toggle
To add content to Keep, follow the steps below.

To add photos/videos:
1. Go to the Home/Friends tab and tap Keep to the right of your profile icon.
2. Tap "+" at the top right of the screen > Photo/Video.
3. Choose the photo or video you want to upload from the camera roll, then tap Choose.

Adding text:
1. Go to the Home/Friends tab and tap Keep to the right of your profile icon.
2. Tap "+" at the top right of the screen > Text.
3. Enter text directly, then tap Save.

To add files:
1. Go to the Home/Friends tab and tap Keep to the right of your profile icon.
2. Tap "+" at the top right of the screen > File.
3. Select the file you want to upload from the iOS Files app.

Adding links:
1. Copy the URL for a link, then open Keep.
2. Tap Add at the bottom of the screen.

About Keep toggle
Keep is a personal storage service that makes it easy for you to save content and share it with your friends. It lets you save chat messages (text), photos, videos, and voice messages.

To see your content saved in Keep, tap the Home/Friends tab > Keep to the right of your name.


You can easily manage the items you sent to your Keep Memo chat on Keep. For information about Keep Memo, see this Help article.

How to view your saved files toggle
To view your files stored in Keep, go to your Friends list > tap your name > Keep.

You can also view your stored files by going to Settings > Profile, and then tap the Keep button beneath the Phone Number field.

Storage period/capacity for Keep toggle
Most items can be saved in Keep for any length of time.

There is a storage period of 30 days only for files larger than 50MB. The number of days remaining will appear on these files every day in your item list in Keep.
Note: After a certain amount of time has passed, you will no longer be able to save items (e.g. photos, videos, or other files) that were sent in Keep Memo.

Keep has a storage capacity of 1 GB.

Item restrictions
• Photos and files: No restrictions
• Videos: Up to 5 minutes
• Text: Up to 10,000 characters

If you can't save something in Keep, check your available storage capacity.

You may not be able to upload to Keep if you don't have enough storage space on your device. Please free up space on your device.

Saved files will appear once all uploads are completed. If your saved file does not appear, it is possible the file has not completed uploading to the server. Please give it some time before checking again.

What are tags? toggle
Adding tags to saved files makes classifying and searching for them more convenient. Up to 10 tags can be added to one file. 

You can tag files by following the steps below:

1. Tap the file you want to tag.
2. Tap the menu icon at the top-right corner > tap Add Tags.
3. Enter a tag name > tap Save.

If you want to tag multiple files, please follow these steps:

1. Tap the menu icon at the top-right corner > tap Add Tags.
2. Select the files you wish to tag > tap Add Tags.
3. Enter a tag name > tap Save.

How to stop sharing a file toggle
You can stop sharing a file by following the steps below:

1. Tap the relevant file.
2. Tap the share icon at the lower-right corner > Delete Link > OK.

After deleting a link, no one will be able to view the file, even if they try to access the link you previously created.

Issues accessing a link toggle
If you see the error "Unable to Access Link" when trying to open a link, the following are possible:

- The original file has been deleted.
- The link has been deleted. (In this case, if the person who shared the relevant file creates a new link, it can be accessed again.)

If the content of the file has been reported as a spam or malware, it is possible access to the file has been restricted.

Reporting toggle
If you receive spam messages from people who are not your friends, you can report them. 

To report a user, please follow the steps below.
1. Open the relevant chat, then tap the V icon at the top right.
2. Tap Settings > Report.
3. Select the reason you are reporting the user, then tap Agree and Send.

After receiving your report, we will look into the matter and take appropriate action if the user is found to be in violation of our Terms and Conditions of Use. Please understand that we cannot inform you of the detailed results of our investigation and the action taken in order to protect the user's privacy.

What is Letter Sealing? toggle
Letter Sealing is a feature that provides end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for chat messages. E2EE is a communication system designed so that messages saved on our servers are encrypted and cannot be read by anyone except the sender and receiver of the message.

Once the sender and receiver have both turned on Letter Sealing, they will be able to start sending messages with added security.

The following information will be encrypted:

• Text messages (not including messages sent through other services like YouTube)
• Location information
• 1-on-1 voice/video calls
Note: We plan to expand Letter Sealing’s functionality in the future.

If you use LINE for iPad or PC after turning on Letter Sealing, you'll be required to verify your identity the first time you send a message by entering a 6-digit verification code on the smartphone version of LINE.

Voice and Video Calls

Voice/video call issues

I can't make voice/video calls toggle
If you're experiencing issues with voice/video calls, it may be because:

• You're using an older version of LINE.
• You've blocked the friend you're calling, or they've blocked you.
• LINE's settings for Allow voice calls are turned OFF.
• You haven't added the person you're calling as a friend, or they haven't added you.
Note: Voice/video calls cannot be made if only one of you has added the other as a friend.
• Your device doesn't meet the recommended system requirements.
• The friend you're trying to call isn't using LINE.

Unable to hear toggle
As voice and video calls are made over an internet connection, you may not be able to hear the other party, or they may sound broken up in the following cases. Please ensure that you have a stable internet connection.

The following are the main causes for such issues.
- You are connected to a Wi-Fi network accessible by the general public (we recommend using a 3G or 4G network).
- You are updating apps, or uploading or downloading files.
- The signal is weak.
- Some router settings are affecting your connection.

Both parties should try the following.

1. Update the app to the latest version from the URL below.
2. Restart the device.
3. Turn your speaker off and on again, and try adjusting the volume.
4. Turn on Receive Voice Calls in LINE. Details can be found here.
5. Check the microphone settings. Details can be found here.

Voice/video calls

Making voice/video calls toggle
You can make voice and video calls with your friends on LINE.

To make a call from your friend list:
1. Tap the friend you want to call.
2. Tap Voice call or Video call.
3. Tap Start.

To call a friend from a chat, use one of the methods below.

• At the top right of the chat, tap the phone icon > Voice call or Video call.
• Tap your friend's profile photo > Voice call or Video call > Start.

If you're using a 3G or 4G network, you may be charged for the data used during a call. We recommend using a flat-rate data plan.

Note:
-  If call quality is low, try using a Wi-Fi connection.
- You can use video call effects on devices equipped with the Apple A9 or later processors.

Are all voice/video calls free? toggle
Voice and video calls in LINE are free.

Calling or chatting with users on different mobile service carriers is also free. LINE will not charge you, even if you are calling a friend in a different country or using the service while you are traveling.

However, like all other apps, you will be charged by your mobile service carrier for the data that you use. Depending on your price plan, you may be charged each time you connect to LINE, so we recommend using a flat-rate data plan.
Note: With a flat-rate data plan, you will generally not be charged additional data fees when using a 3G, LTE, or Wi-Fi connection. For more details, check with your mobile service provider.
